Dear Friend,
Greetings in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ. While
many reflect on this past year and look forward to the coming year, I would like
to reflect on the Word of God. This past year a man of God came to our church
and quoted this verse of Scripture: "Ye are they which have continued with Me
in My temptations. And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as My Father hath
appointed unto Me;" (Luke 22:29 & 30).
As we look at these verses, we find that all the while the Lord Jesus was
here on earth He was put to the tests. He suffered adversity of all kinds, as we
do. He was scrutinized by people continually. His tests pierced His heart, as ours
do now. The Bible says, He "...was in all points tempted like as we are, yet
without sin" (Hebrews 4:15). He knows what we go through because He
carried our griefs and sorrows. But there is a crown of life found in His kingdom
for those who endure these tests and trials!
There is no question that each of us has our own personally designed test!
These tests reveal to us the areas of our lives we need to address. I notice that
their appointment to His kingdom was not based on their present circumstances.
He knew Peter would deny Him 3 times before the rooster crowed in the
morning. He knew they would all be scattered before daybreak. Yet He
appointed them a kingdom, a realm that was far above the corrupted kingdoms
of this world. Many times we pay more attention to a corrupt kingdom than the
kingdom the Lord Jesus appointed unto us. Your tests or temptations are setting
you apart so your dependency is on Christ alone. The Scripture says, "Not that
we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves; but our
sufficiency is of God;" (2 Corinthians 3:5). God brings us into a season in our
lives that causes His kingdom to flourish.
The Lord not only appoints us a kingdom that shall not be moved, but He
crowns us with life: abundant life! You may have had bad experiences in the
past. But don't allow those experiences rob you of your present and your future!
Find a place to pray, away from the noise of this world. Let the Lord speak to
your heart the secrets of being an overcomer by His Spirit. It does not come by
our own power, nor our own might. But we are overcomers by His Spirit that is
freely given to those who obey Him!
We have many appointments to keep. There are doctors appointments,
appointments to fix the car, or appointments to service our houses or whatever.
But the Lord has an appointed time and place to meet with us personally to
direct us in His perfect will. I have found that I must listen carefully for His still
small voice, or I will miss my appointment. If I miss my doctors appointment
enough times they will bill me. It costs me something to miss my appointments
with God. It may cost courage and strength when the battles come. It may cost
peace in the midst of the storms. Fear and anxiety might replace faith when I
need faith the most.
So I endeavor to keep my appointments with God. I know one thing is for
sure: it is not too late to get a new appointment with God! Call on His name
from your heart. His name, through faith in His name, will make you whole! As
I faithfully keep my appointments with God, He who is the great physician, not
only heals my hurts but strengthens me for the tests. Jesus always stayed ahead
of the tests by communicating with the Father continually. That is the secret to
living an overcoming life! Every sin, weakness, or temptation can and will be
overcome when we keep our appointments with God!
From all of us at the church in Torrington, we wish you a safe and healthy
New Year. I invite you to our services. Our schedule of services is Sunday at 10
am and 7 pm, and Wednesday at 7:30 pm. May God bless you "more
abundantly" always!

Sincerely,

Rev. Daniel Bossidy
