PEANUT MARKETING NEWS – January 9, 2020 – Tyron Spearman, Editor (3)

TINA FLOYD FROM THE J.M. SMUCKER COMPANY SPEAKS AT APC – The J.M. Smucker Company has maintained the
leadership position in fruit spreads and peanut butter, with its Smucker’s ® and Jif®brands respectively, while launching successful
innovations such as Smucker’s®Uncrustables® according to Tina Floyd, VP and General Manager of Consumer Foods.
The $7.8B J.M. Smucker Company is a Fortune 500 Company with a strong history in jams, jellies and preserves. Smucker
has entered the categories of coffee, pet food and pet snacks recently and today the Company’s portfolio of 40+ brands are found in
90% of U.S. homes and countless restaurants.
Tina shared some interesting facts about the current state of the peanut butter business:
- 79% of US households purchased peanut butter in 2018-2019 and Jif represents 40% of the peanut butter market.
- Peanut butter is the top consumed nut butter with 7.4 lbs/ year per capita.
- Snacking is becoming America’s favorite pastime with 95% of American’s snacking once per day. 70% snack 3 times/day
In addition to its popular Jif brand, Smucker has a broad portfolio of brands offering peanut butter including Santa Cruz Organic ®,
Laura Scudder® and Adams®.
A New Way to PB&J

-Smucker’s®Uncrustables® has grown from a $10 million business to over $250M in net sales in 2019. While it has become
one of the Company’s most popular products, household penetration for Uncrustables is a modest 8%. However, with the opening of a
new plant in Longmont, Colorado dedicated to producing the frozen handhelds, that number is sure to rise in the years ahead.

“We are very confident in the great brands we have and are excited about the bold new advertising we have started to launch,
such as the ‘That Jif’ing Good’ campaign, which will help make our brands relevant to an even wider audience,” said Floyd. “As our
Executive Chairman Richard Smucker likes to say, the best is yet to come.”
