Preface…..
I have great pleasure in bringing out this text book entitled “ARM Micro Controller with
Lab Manual” for sixth semester diploma in Electronics & Communication Engineering. This book
is designed for comprehensively covering all topics relevant to the subject. Each and every topic
has been explained in a very simple language as per the syllabus prescribed by the Board of
Technical Education, Karnataka. This book is divided into eight chapters. The details of the
contents are summarized as follows

Chapter 1 is concerned with ARM embedded system which deals with the design
philosophy, hardware and software of embedded system.

Chapter 2 is concerned with ARM processor fundamentals which deal with the registers,
pipelining and exception of ARM.

Chapter 3 is concerned with ARM instruction set, which deals with the types of
instructions such as data processing instructions, branch instructions, load-store instructions,
interrupt instructions and conditional execution instructions.

Chapter 4 is concerned with THUMB instructions which deal with the register usage and
ARM THUMB interworking.

Chapter 5 is concerned with ARM programming which deals with the structure of
assembly module, Subroutine, interrupt handling schemes etc.

Chapter 6 is concerned with LPC2148 CPU which deals with its silent features, pin
description, architecture, memory mapping and peripherals.

Chapter 7 is concerned with LPC2148 peripherals which deals with the detail description
of GPIO, Pin control block, PLL, SPI, Timers, PWM, RTC, ADC and DAC.

I have tried my best to make the subject as clear as possible by giving review questions
for easy glancing and examination preparation. It is hoped that this book will be an immense
use to teachers and students of polytechnics.

In writing this text book, I have consulted many books, references and the literature in
order to make the book more useful to the students. I am indebted to these authors and
publishers.

Any suggestions and comments from teachers and students for improvement in the
future editions of this book will be appreciated.
