1. Explain briefly the differences between category M, N and O vehicle. List TWO (2) types
of vehicle for each category that are normally used in Malaysia.
 M = Motor vehicles with less than four wheels [but does include light four-wheelers]
Example : motorcycle above 50cc, three wheel motorcycle below 50cc
 N = Vehicles having at least four wheels and used the carriage of passengers.
Example : Car , Bus
 O = Power-driven vehicles having at least four wheels and used for the carriage of goods.
Example : Lorries , Commercial truck

2. Explain FIVE (5) types of inspection that carried out at PUSPAKOM.

 Above carriage - examine upper body condition
 Side slip – Test vehicle’s front wheels alignment
 Under carriage – examine under carriage condition
 Suspension – test vehicle’s suspension system performance
 Identification – identifying registration, chassis and engine numbers
3. Describe FIVE (5) main duties of the Technical Division of the Road Transport Department
and explain any one in detail.

4. Explain about On-Board Diagnostics Requirements.
 Regulation require auto manufacturers to install systems that monitor over the full
vehicle life emission control parts for any malfunction causing an emission
increase beyond certain thresholds.
 driver must be notified of the need for repair via a light on the dashboard
(“Malfunction Indicator”–MI) when the diagnostics system has detected a problem.

5. List down FIVE (5) Malaysian environmental laws related to vehicle Environmental Quality
Act 1974 (Act 127).
 Environmental Quality (Clean Air) Regulations 1978 [P.U.(A) 280/78]
 Environmental Quality (Clean Air) (Amendment) Regulations 2000 [P.U.(A) 309/
2000]
 Environmental Quality (Motor Vehicle Noise) Regulation 1987 [P.U.(A) 24487]
 Environmental Quality (Control of Emission from Diesel Engines) Regulations
1996 [P.U.(A) 429/96]
 Environmental Quality (Control of Emission from Petrol Engines) Regulations 1996
[P.U.(A) 543/96]

6. Explain the process of engine conversion if engine capacity exceeds 30 % than the
original engine.
Apply direct to JPJ for approval by producing these document:

 Engine Change Notification Form

 A photocopy of the vehicle registration card signed by the owner
 A photocopy of the engine purchase receipt
 A certified photocopy of the K1 customs report
 A confirmed sales and purchase letter (for engines purchased from other vehicles)

After approval is issued, owner must do inspection in PUSPAKOM within 3 months to

obtain B2 PUSPAKOM Inspection Report by attaching this documents:

 The approval letter from the Automotive Engineering Department of JPJ

 The original copy of the vehicle registration card signed by the owner
 The original copy of the engine purchase receipt
 The original copy of the K1 customs report
 A confirmed sales and purchase letter (for engines purchased from other vehicles)
 A PG10 report (for engine change that exceeds 30% of the original engine

After B2 PUSPAKOM Inspection Report is issued owner must produce report along
with the vehicle registration card to the JPJ State Office for record approval

7. Explain SIX (6) types of engine conversions that are allowed by the Road Transport
Department (RTD).
 Category 1: Engine change of the same make and capacity (cc) or to one with
capacity not exceeding 30% of the original engine (private vehicles only)
 Category 2: Engine change of a different make/capacity that exceeds 30% of the
original engine
 Category 3: Engine change that involves fuel type change
 Category 4: Engine change on PROTON-made cars with CAMPRO engines to
Mitsubishi-made engine
 Category 5: Engine change that involves changing of gearbox (from manual to
auto)
 Category 6: Engine change for commercial vehicle

8. Explain SIX (6) types of Cut and Joint which are not allowed by RTD for vehicle
modification.
 Tampered silicon
 Overlap joining part
 Roof pillar cut and joint replaced
 Tampered spot welded nugget
 Tampered engine number
 Tampered chassis number

9. Explain FOUR (4) main types of Cuts that are allowed by RTD on a vehicle.
 Correct as per legal document
 Original and clear
 Not tampered
 Base plate numbers not tampered

10. List FOUR (4) main areas that not allowed to cut and joint during body repair before sent
for vehicle inspection.
 Cowl Panel
 Chassis Frame
 Wheelhouse-Rear
 Wheelhouse-Front
11. List SIX (6) types of Cut and Joint which are needed conditional approved by RTD for
vehicle modification.
 Cowl panel cut and joint
 Fire-wall cut and joint
 Pillar A,B,C cut and joint
 Floorboard cut and joint
 Wheelhouse cut and joint
 Change of chassis
12. List SIX (6) effect of an improper vehicle body joint. And explain one of it.
 Vehicle wiring is not guaranteed
 Durability vehicle body structure is not guaranteed
 Brakes system will be disturb
 Durability of welded area is not guaranteed
 Steering alignment is affected
 Vehicle identity tampered
13. Give THREE (3) types of vehicle registration plate numbers that are allowed in Malaysia
and give an example for each type.
 Private & commercial vehicles - ABC 4567
 Taxi - HAB 4567
 Military - ZA 4567
14. Explain the meaning of “APPROVED FACILITY” by programme for the establishment of
approved facility for testing emissions from motor vehicle.
 facility or place approved by the Director General which is equipped with the
necessary smoke meter and/or gaseous meter and trained personnel for carrying
out any smoke and gaseous emission test from motor vehicles.

15. Explain the criteria for obtaining recognition as an “approved facility‟.

 Smoke meter and/or CO & HC Analyzer.
 Trained personnel processing the Certificate of Competency from Department of
Environment (DOE).

16. Explain the FOUR (4) gasses that produced from the exhaust manifold that pollutes
our environment and the effect of each gasses to our health or environment.
 CO = Carbon Monoxide
-an indicator of combustion inefficiency as it represents partly burned fuel.
Effect – headaches, fatigue and reduce reflexes
 NOx = Oxides of Nitrogen
-Nitrogen oxides (NOx) are produced when fuel is burned.
Effect – difficulty breathing lead to asthma
 HC = Hydrocarbons
-Unburned fuel being pumped raw into the exhaust system
Effect – eye and respiratory irritation
 PM = Particulate matter
-Microscopic particles and tiny droplets of liquids.
Effect – blocking airways and cause lung irritation

17. Estimation cost flow

 Investigate
 Analyze
 Estimate damage
 Estimate part replacement and repair
 Estimate time and labour
 Estimate total cost – replacement part, repair part, refinishing
18. Road transport act 1987
 Sec. 14 - DISPLAY OF REGISTRATION NUMBER
 Sec.40 - EXCEEDING SPEED LIMIT
 Sec.41- CAUSING DEATH BY RECKLESS OR DANGEROUS DRIVING
 Sec.42 - RECKLESS AND DANGEROUS DRIVING
 Sec.48 - OBSTRUCTION BY VEHICLE ON ROAD
