INTRODUCTION

The most important need of schools especially the students is school uniform.

Both boys and girls must wear their school uniforms so that it can serve as their

identity. Originally, school uniforms were introduced to hide the social differences

between students and it can help with their safety. There are some reasons why they

must have wear uniforms it can prevent violence, parents can save money and

students can be less distracted. On the other hand, students believes that their self-

expression will be taken away from them. All schools in each state should require

school uniforms and parents should support the idea of school uniforms even though

students maybe against on it.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Uniforms have been one of the component of private schools and public schools.

School uniforms are often viewed as a way of reducing the freedom of students. A

uniform can even be as simple as requiring collared shirts, or restricting color choices

and limiting items students that are allowed to wear. It can create an environment

where discipline is emphasized.

Brunsma and Rockquemore (1998) cited that some critics suggest that school

uniforms may lower students’ creativity and affect their ability to properly express

themselves.

Students have some valuable insights or thought in the pros and cons of how

school uniforms are used. Even the recent or newly graduates with or without

uniform can offer insights as why does the enrollees rate of Grade 11 increase in

Lipay National High School. It is the students who can give a better description of

how does the newly changed uniform might affect their education positively or

negatively.

4. How does school uniform affect the enrollment rate in grade 11 in Lipay

National High School?

5. What implications can be drawn in this study in relation to the existing policies

of the school?

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

The study is all about finding out how the newly changed uniform made an

impact to Grade 11 enrollees of Lipay National High School. The researchers will

need to know if changing uniform affects the enrollment rate of the students. The

researchers will create a survey containing questionnaires where the Grade 11

students will provide an answer.

especially the Grade 11 as the primary group that will benefit from the results of this

study. It will determine the different perceptions of students on the newly changed

uniform in Senior High School.

Teachers. The given data will guide the teachers on what the students believe

regarding on school uniform. The teachers will be able to understand how newly

changed uniform affects the enrollees rate in school.

School Administration. The Lipay National High School administrators will

gain insights and enrich their understanding on how uniform affects the willingness

of the students on choosing the school they want.

Future Researcher. The results of this study will enlighten the mind of other

researchers and enrich their understanding on how school uniform affects the

students in choosing the school they want.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

"A students basic right to go to school, study and learn is a paramount of

importance...”, states DepEd Order No. 45 Series of 2008.

According to GreenGarage (2015), one of the most obvious advantages of

wearing school uniforms is the fact that all students would looked the same. Those

who do not have sufficient means to buy fashionable and expensive clothing can

surely benefit from this, and parents can also have a bit of money from not having to

buy trendy clothes for their children, students uniform also show a form of unity at

the school, wherein students wear the same outfits that give them a single identity

that distinguishes them from other school. He also said that the huge disadvantages of

school uniform is that students will not be able to show their personality through

clothing. Students cannot demonstrate their personal sense of style. For fashionistas,

wearing a school uniform will suppress their freedom and passion to express

themselves. This clothing prevents them from wearing the clothes they want. Some

students are also uncomfortable with uniforms, they cannot just pick up from their

closets. Moreover, children often dislike school uniforms because they feel that the

pieces of clothing are not as flattering as other garments, which can make them more

conscious about their image. A school uniform could prove as an academic

destruction, especially when your child is dealing with things, such as garments

rigidness, tightness and itchiness. Also, students do not feel right in their own skin

when they are forcefully instructed to wear something they do not like.

Both Gregory (2013) and CUBE (2006) emphasized that students cannot learn

well and are not likely to behave well in negative environments. Likewise, teachers

will not teach well in such environments. They believed that students rarely

experienced success in school that has negative environment.

Many school boards are currently enforcing dress codes to reduce gang related

violence and to improve achievement in public schools (Wilson, 1998).

Principals of Educational Institution reported that dress code prohibit offensive

clothing with advertisements, offensive messages etc. (DeMitchell et al, 2000).

Many school boards mindful of their responsibility to provide safe school

environments for students, have implemented policies specifying dress codes or

wearing of uniform (Isaacson, 1998).

Drussel (2005) noted the popularity of the school uniform among advantaged

social group such as the white students in elitist private school which adopted and

was referred to as " 'preppy look' khaki or gray trousers worn with Oxford shirts with

button-down collars in white or light blue" (p.191).

Kalkstein (2006) reviewed the empirical literature and conducted that results

conflicted, such as published research on the opposite relationship between school

uniforms and reduce incidences of violence or improvements in school climate had

yield no definitive conclusions.

Mandatory public school uniform practice has been the primary focus in the

recent educational policy of both developed and developing countries (Agarwal,

2015).

DeMitchell and Fossey (2015) emphasized that school uniform policies in

private school are being adopted by public schools but not without controversy.

Yeung (2009) states that, "One of the most common proposals put forth for

reform of the American system is to require school uniforms..." Vol.23

RESEARCH DESIGN

The research study will make the use of the correlative research, where it will

determine the impact of the newly changed uniform to the Grade 11 students of

Lipay National High School. The researchers will conduct a survey containing

questions to find out if the uniform has an impact to the enrollment rate of SHS S.Y

2019-2020.

According to McCombes (2019) a correlational research design measures a

relationship between two variables without the researcher controlling either of them.

It aims to find out whether there is either: positive correlation, negative correlation

and zero correlation.
