Chapter 3

METHOD

This chapter presents the research design, research subject, research

instruments, data gathering procedure, and statistical tools employed in this investigation.

Research Design

The researcher chose a Survey Research Design because it best served to answer

the questions and the purposes of the study. The survey research is one in which a group

of people or items is studied by collecting and analyzing data from only a few people or

items considered to be representative of the entire group. In other words, only a part of

the population is studied, and findings from this are expected to be generalized to the

entire population (Nworgu 1991:68). Similary, McBurney (1994:170) defines the survey

assessing public opinion or individual characteristics by the use of questionnaire and

sampling methods.

It is also a Qualitative Research which made use of descriptive survey method. It

is descriptive study because it involved the collection of data concerning the effect of one-

in one-out policy in tagum city national high school.

Research Subject

This study was conducted in Tagum City, Davao del Norte particularly at

Tagum City National High School, DepEd Division of Tagum City. Table 1 shows the

distribution of respondents. The subjects for the qualitative study were the whole

population Grade XI students for school year 2019-2020 under the Humanities and Social

Sciences (HUMSS). There were six hundred ninety-four (694) students of which three

hundred sixty-seven (367) were females and three hundred twenty-seven (327) were
males. From the total population, ten (10) participants were purposively chosen based

on specified criteria for the qualitative study. The sample is 0.012% of the population.

Among the ten, five (5) are males which comprised 0.0126% of the male population and

five (5) are females which was 0.113% of the female population.

Research Instrument

The data used in this study were the Grade XI Humanities and Social Sciences

students of Tagum City National High School and Mathematics respectively.

The population of Grade XI HUMSS students were taken from their Students

Permanent Record in the Registrar’s Office. The profile of the students such as gender

was also obtained from the said form.

Male 327 164 50%

Female 367 184 50%

Total 694 348 50%

Data Gathering Procedure

The gathering of the needed data was done through the following steps:

The researcher asked permission from the school principal that we would allowed

to conduct the study. After the approval was granted, the researcher requested for a copy

of the list of the respondents obtained from their Student’s Permanent Record at the

school’s Records Office through the respondents’ class advisers.

The data gathered were collated and analyzed in the light of the problems stated

in Chapter 1. The interpreted data through statistical methods became the basis for the

generation of the findings.

The questionnaires were distributed to the participants after their class hours with

a note of approval of the school. Questionnaires shall be retrieved the same days as they

were given to ensure a higher return percentage of questionnaires.

From the findings of the study, from the quantitative data, the researcher framed

the conclusion and recommendations.

Statistical Treatment of the Data

The data gathered were analyzed according to appropriate statistical tools. The

following were utilized in the study:

Percentage. This was used to determine the percentage distribution of the

respondents.

Average Weighted Mean. This was used to determine the levels of effect of the

policy to the students.

Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). This was utilized to determine the significant of

One-In One-Out policy to the students.

t - test. This was used to test the significant effect of One-In One-Out Policy to the

Grade XI students of Tagum City National High School.

Correlation Analysis using Pearson r. This was used to establish the relationship

between the school policy and Grade XI students.
