A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 8

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson 100% of the students with 75% level of proficiency
should be able to:
1. Define fault
2. Determine the consequences of plates that are moving apart
3. Draw the appearance of a fault
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Earthquakes and Faults
Subtopic: How movements along faults generate earthquakes
Concept:
Earthquake- vibration of Earth due to rapid release of energy
Fault- is a break in the Earth’s crust, and along the break which movement has
occurred.
Plate-rigid section of the lithosphere that moves as a unit.
Epicenter-the point on the earth’s surface vertically above the focus of an
earthquake.
Magnitude-a number that shows the power of an earthquake.
Textbook: Breaking Through Science 8 p.166-172
References: Science 8 Learner’s Module p.115-122
Materials: Activity sheets, visual aids. PowerPoint presentation, zest-o boxes,
masking tape, ruler
Skills: Analyze how movements along faults can generate earthquakes.
Values: Recognize the importance of location when building structures.

Activity #1: Film Showing

Activity # 2: It is our Fault: The Fault-u Set Up
Procedure:
Arrange the two sheets of cardboard, edge to edge. It could be horizontally
or vertically arranged.
Flatten the modeling clay and place it at the center of the two cardboards.
Clay should be along the boundary.
Slowly pull the two cardboards away from each other. Observe what happens
to the clay.
Draw your observation based on the result of your fault-y set up in ¼ cartolina
and post your work on the board.
Draw your observation.
