SCHOOL
Teacher Chrisha D. Encendencia Subject TLE-ICT
Dates December 02, 2019 Learning Area Computer Hardware
Servicing
Time 10:45-11:45 AM Topic NETWORK TOPOLOGY

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content The learner demonstrates understanding of the underlying concepts and principles of diagnosing and
Standard troubleshooting computer systems.
B. Performance The learner independently diagnoses and troubleshoots computer systems as prescribed by TESDA
Standards Training Regulations.
C. Learning The learners should be able to;
Competencies /  Configure computer systems and networks
Objectives (TLE_ICTCS9DT-IIIf-j-2)
(Write the LC Specifically, at the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
Code) 1. Define and identify the different network topologies as part of network configuration.
2. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of the different network topologies as part of
network configuration.
3. Appreciate the advantages/disadvantages of network topologies in the school’s computer
laboratory through successfully completing a worksheet.

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing
previous lesson In order to check the mastery of the previous lesson, students will have a simple activity where they will
or presenting the identify what is being asked using the clues provided by the teacher.

B. Establishing a
purpose for the “PICTURE OBSERVATION”
lesson Divide the class into pairs, and have each pair must have their own answers for the questions
that will be flashed after the pictures. They will have 2 minutes to think of an answer.
After 2 minutes, they will face their partner and start sharing their answers with each other. 3
C. Presenting minutes will be given for the sharing. After 3 minutes, they will go back to their seats and clap to
examples/ signal the teacher that they have finished the task.

new lesson
(ENGAGED) What do How are they

show? other?

Guide question to be discussed at the end of the activity:

Did you enjoy sharing your answers with your partners?
What do the maps show? How are they different from each other?
What do the lines in the maps represent? How about the small circles?
Based on the activity, what do you mean by network topology?
How does the variety of connections affect the network?
What will you consider when choosing a connection?
D. Discussing new
concepts and Relate network connections/topology to how we decide to do
practicing new things to make tasks easier like how we choose the best route
skills #1 to get to our destination, how we choose the best solution in
mathematics to get aan answer.
E. Discussing
concepts and
practicing new
skills #2
(EXPLORE)

F. Developing Discussion of the types of network topology.

mastery NETWORK TOPOLOGY
(Leads to 1.BUS
Formative • all stations are attached to a single cable
Assessment 3)
(EXPLAIN) Advantages: Easy to wire, quick response, less expensive, and if one station dies, it
has no effect on the total network.
Disadvantage: However bad connection to the cable can short it and bring down the
entire network
2. RING
• consists of nodes that are joined by point-to-point connection to form a closed loop or
ring.
Advantages: The most important advantage of this network is its point-to-point
connections. Fault isolation and recovery are much simpler.
Disadvantages: The disadvantage is it offers only two alternate routes and thereby it
can manage only a single fault. Another important drawback of ring network is its large
diameter.
3. STAR
• each station is connected via a point-to-point link to a central point. This central point is
called hub, multi-port repeater, or concentrator.
Advantage: The main advantage of the star architecture over the bus is its small
excess loss, since in case of n-user star the excess loss increases logarithmically with
n, while in case of n-user bus it increases linearly with n.
Disadvantage: Since all information in a star network goes through a central point,
stars are easy to troubleshoot.

G. Finding practical The teacher will ask students the application/importance or its relationship to other discipline. Relate
applications of or give importance of having knowledge about network topology, give examples of other areas where
concepts and it can be used.
