The Relationship of Effective Instruction and Effective Classroom Management

Classroom management is a key element to establish a successful learning environment in any

classroom. Not all students are ready and prepared to receive instruction. Student’s behavior in
the classroom are influenced by several factors. Students’ behavior is influenced by their age,
academic abilities, goals, interests, and home backgrounds (Evertson, Emmer, and Worsham,
2006).A classroom with a proper management plan will spend less time in disciplining and more
time in learning. Students in effectively managed classrooms know and follow clearly defined
rules and routines. In addition to being aware of how culture influences behavior, teachers could
also influence students’ behavior. What is more, students are quick to pick up the expectations
of success or failure that others have for them. When, for instance, a teacher signals his or her
lack of confidence in the ability of students to understand certain subjects, the students may lose
confidence in their ability and may perform more poorly than they otherwise might Teachers are
responsible for the classroom management and teaching without the two there will be no learning.
Effective teaching takes place when students learn. Students learn when there is a change in
behavior of the students, when they achieve the goals and objectives planned for them. Thorndike
postulated several laws of learning. One of which is Law of readiness. Poor classroom
management means chaotic classroom, and thus means students are not set to learn. Learners
should be physically and mentally adjusted to receive stimuli. Effective classroom management
also includes positive consequences to motivate students and be more willing to learn. When
students are more motivated to learn the Law of Effect says that there is more likely learning
taking place. It has been said that people have to construct their own meaning regardless of how

clearly teachers or books tell them things. Mostly, a person does this by connecting new
information and concepts to what he or she already believes. So is true to the
students. Effective classroom management is the first step for effective classroom management.
