CS ELECTIVE (BASIC TROUBLESHOOTING)

I. Subject Code : CS 412


II. Subject Description: CS Elective(Basic Troubleshooting)
III. Units: Three (3)
IV. Time Allotment: Three (3) hours every week
V. Description of the Course:

This course includes the basics of computer troubleshooting. Identifying


computer problems and apply corresponding solution for each errors.
Familiarizing the computer components and its use, and managing personal
computer.

VI. General Objective:


 Discuss the basic parts or components of computer system.
 Explain how computer works.
 Detecting computer hardware and software problems and apply its
solutions.
 Install Operating systems, software applications and device drivers.
 Discuss the most effective way to maintain personal computer.
VII. Course Outline:
1. Introduction
Objectives:
 Discuss the parts of computer and its use.
 Demonstrate the proper handling of computer components
 Explains the importance of precise procedures in installing
computer parts.

c) Do’s and Don’ts in installing computer hardware

2. Why computer system sometimes fails?
Objectives:
 Discuss the common errors in handling computer.
 Indentify the computer errors (such as beep codes, light indicators)
and apply appropriate actions
 Discuss the proper maintenance of computer hardware.

3. Basic Input Output System(BIOS)
Objectives:
 Explain the importance and use of BIOS

4. Installing Operating System(Windows, Linux)


Objectives:
 Discuss the basic preparations before installing New OS
 Install a windows operating system
 Explain the importance of backing-up files.
 Discuss the other OS that exist and its differences.

5. The Control Panel (Windows Operating System)


Objectives:
 Discuss the use of control panel and its contents
 Installing new added hardware attached to the computer.
 Proper installation of computer programs such as Office
application.
 Proper installation of device drivers for a specific hardware
component such as VGA, Network Adapters and Audio Device.
 Discuss the relationship between hardware and its software drivers.

d) The Sound and Audio Devices, keyboard, mouse, printer and faxes,

 Introduce the built in systems utilities of windows
 Create and restore systems files and settings with the use of
Backup tools.
 Create and restore system settings and performance with the use
of System Restore.
 Manage disk to maximize its performance and save disk space.
