CHAPTER 1

I. INTRODUCTION

In our country more Students they’re choose Information and

Communication Technology course. The Information and Communication is the

most Demand course in our Country. In a first a batch of Senior high school or

called K to 12 assigned the DEPED computer laboratories where each school

was given the opportunity to have enough laboratory equipment to use it by the

ICT student. The year is continuing with the addition of high school students who

are most encouraged to enter the Information and Communication course

because of this they have a lot of ideas about their.

Computer Facilities is an Equipment of all Computer laboratories which is

usually used by ICT students in a laboratory to get a chance to learn about ICT

lesson or to get a chance to use the computer of all ICT student in lesson or

activities. With the increasing number of students in Information Technology is

not enough for laboratory equipment in the number of enrolled students.

9
COMMONWEALTH HIGH SCHOOL

B. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The Information Communication and Technology course is one of the

most basic courses in senior high school. So is the number of students coming

from junior high school to enroll in the Information Communication and

Technology course. As we learn in our school, In the second year of the K to 12

program at our school, they’re announcement the Information and

Communication Technology course is Available to enroll to all students to

interest in this course.so in that case many Interest have entered it. But in the

first year only Information and Communication Technology courses are

immediately filled with each section. The first problem of the school is that

Laboratory equipment is not enough to students Enrolled in Information and

Communication Technology courses. Some of the learners do not use computers

because of the lack of laboratory equipment.

So there is also a change in the use of a computer to use and to make a

student work. But this time is not enough way to solve the problem of the

learners, because there is also an unreasonable let's get rid of the use of a

computer in the lab. The second Problem is the copying and erasing of student. It

is unjust to a student who originally created. The third problem is lack of privacy

of one of the user’s Computer learners can either deceive or

Duplicate the activities or files he/she has made. The last problem is lack of time

for experienced exchanges on a computer in the laboratory. An ICT student

10
COMMONWEALTH HIGH SCHOOL
cannot make it because of not that is enough time to make him a task because

he/she has a share in a computer.

C. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The problem with our topic is the sharing of computer in computer lab. For lack of

computer lab equipment, we can have two students into one computer.

Specially, the researcher seeks to answer the following question in terms of.

1. What is the Problem faced by students who are sharing the computer in

the laboratory?

2. How do senior high students minimize the problem encountered when sharing

computer in computer laboratory?

3. What do you think are the reasons why some students share a computer in

computer laboratory?
11
COMMONWEALTH HIGH SCHOOL
D. SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

The general purpose of this research is to studying of sharing computer in

computer laboratory of Commonwealth High School is to know what is the effect

of lack of equipment and privacy to the students. However, many programs are

mainly intended to develop student’s digital skills, that is, on preparing students

to effectively use technology in their lives. Public programs that provide one

personal laptop to each student have shown sizable positive effects on digital

skills (Malamud 2012). These only focus on sharing computer in computer

laboratory in batch 2018-2019.

The respondents of this study will be eight of Grade 11 and Grade 12

students will be the subjects in this study. This study will be conduct from

December 2018 to March 2019. The researchers will conduct the study by a 1 on

1 interview with the Respondents.

So we did this as this study to know that researchers what becomes the

problem of students in Information Communication and Technology for sharing

computer in computer laboratory and researchers also like to know whether

what becomes their trial Sharing computer in computer laboratory.

Researchers want to know what is the some problems and challenges of

students on sharing computer in computer laboratory and to how to minimize the

some problems and challenges of sharing of computer in computer lab.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter presents related literature and studies after the deep and tough

search done by the researchers.

Foreign Related Literature

According to Kumar (2016).Schools and colleges around the world are

using computer and internet technologies to teach students digitally and

creatively with data visualization .Uses of the computer in a classroom will

explore creatively and imagination in student mind. Drawing tools spread sheet,

Audio, Video lecture and power point presentation etc. are very beneficial for

students to more learn deeply and accurately. Computer is the most important

educational tools for teachers and learners.

According to University of Chicago (2019) The Computer Laboratory

facilities Are designed to supplement existing high-performance numerical

computing facilities at the University of Chicago with local resources specifically

tailored for use by the Institute faculty, research projects, and staff. These local

resources include Sun Microsystems, Apple Macintosh, and Intel-based

Windows computers, a variety of hardcopy output devices, and multimedia

development equipment.
15
COMMONWEALTH HIGH SCHOOL
According to University of Washington (2015). Students, faculty and staff

have access to the computer labs, which provide the tools and technologies to

produce websites, edit papers, complete class assignments, communicate via

email, and conduct data analyses and access library resources. Microsoft

Windows software is available for word processing, statistics, spreadsheets and

database management.

According to Watson (2018).Most schools now are moving away from the

computer lab set up (housing computers in their own separate rooms) in favor of

placing more computers in the classroom so they can be fully integrated into

instruction throughout the day. School and technology ideas are changing: the

idea of a separate “computer teacher” is being phased out as ALL teachers are

expected to be proficient with computers and use them in their lessons. I agree

with this concept of having technology in the classroom and believe that

eventually, all schools will make this shift and focus on classroom technology.

According to G.D. Goenka Public School (2017). The school integrates

Information and Communication technology into the curriculum, and thus

provides the latest resources in this field. The school’s computer and

communication network provides state-of-the-art computing facilities. The school

has two fully equipped Computer Labs- Senior and Junior labs with more than 60

computers in each.
16
COMMONWEALTH HIGH SCHOOL

Local Related Literature

According to GMA News. TV (2008).An additional 600 public schools will

soon have their own computer laboratories, boosting the Philippines’ efforts to

provide computer access to all secondary schools, the Department of Education

DepEd said. Among the 6,382 public high schools nationwide, 600 high schools

have been recipients of the DepEd Computerization Program for Fiscal Years

2003-2004 and 2006. The supplemental budget for fiscal year 2006 has also

benefited 355 public high schools.

17
COMMONWEALTH HIGH SCHOOL
Foreign Related Study

In this study conducted by Haurulliza. et .al (2011). Publish in

(IEEE).Computer laboratory is a facility where students access to the hardware

and software necessary to fulfill the requirements in the course. Computer

laboratories are also used to train and expose students on computer

programming, simulation and other subjects. The design and layout of the

laboratory is an important concern to ensure that the facility provides maximum

benefits to students. . The objective of this paper is to propose new layout

designs for the facility and identify the best layout that suits the purpose of the

laboratory. The results show that some modification is required to improve the

current layout and fulfill a better environment for teaching and learning process in

the facility.”

According to Lishuang In order to meet the teaching needs of network

security, public laboratories for computer file sharing methods were studied.

Modify the group policy prohibit students from Network Neighborhood shared

between machines to improve security. Students practice files stored on a

network drive, the teacher simply copy and paste on the server operating folder,

you can easily and quickly recovered the students practice files. After years of

practice has proved: that the method is very practical and effective.
18
COMMONWEALTH HIGH SCHOOL
According by Gakunga and Kithungu (2016). The main purpose of this

study was to investigate factors that influenced students' choice of computer

studies in both public and private secondary schools in Machakos Sub-County,

Kenya. The objective of the study was to establish how, availability of computer

facilities influenced students' choice of computer studies as a learning subject in

public and private secondary schools in Machakos Sub-County, Kenya. The

study reviewed related literature that provided findings from previous researches

on factors influencing students' choice of computer studies in public and private

secondary schools based on the availability of computer facilities.

According By Siddiquah and Salim (2017). The present survey research

was aimed at identifying the ICT facilities, skills, usage, and the problems faced

by the students of higher education while using ICT. They are expert at simple

skills like MS Word, MS Power Point, Searching and Browsing at Internet, Social

networking, Email, File attachment, and Computer games but are less skilled or

poor on other skills like using digital library, discussion forums, and Blogs.

Students spend more time on computers for recreational and other purposes

than for academic purpose. They believe that the use of ICT supports their

learning.

According to Fareo and Ojo (2012) This study is focuses in Facilities.

Facilities have a great impact on academic performances of students, and

19
COMMONWEALTH HIGH SCHOOL
inadequate facilities translate to poor performance. The study examined the

availability and convenience of the facilities that were provided to students with

special educational needs in mainstreamed schools. It ascertained the

qualifications of teachers teaching in mainstreamed public secondary schools. It

determined the relationship between availability of facilities and academic

performance of students with special educational needs; and also compared the

academic performance of male and female students with special educational

needs.

The study concluded that inadequate provision of facilities and materials to

mainstreamed public schools would lead to poor academic performances of

students with special educational needs

Local Related Study

According to Bonifacio from University of the Philippines. The Integrating

Information and Communication Technology or ICT into teaching and learning

has become a great concern for many educators in developing countries like the

Philippines. ICT Must be used and taught in powerful and meaningful ways. With

its rapid development,

Educators should find ways to integrate technology in the learning process. ICT

should not drive Education; rather, educational goals and needs must drive its

use in schools. Targeting holistic Growth for learners is a crucial factor in

20
COMMONWEALTH HIGH SCHOOL
realizing the need to develop ICT curriculum standards For K-12 schools in the

Philippines.

According by Sarah (2018).Several complaints regarding the lack of

sufficient school facilities have been a great concern nowadays at Polytechnic

University of the Philippines in Santa Rosa Campus. With regards to this, certain

components like lack of computers, improper lighting and poor air quality affects

the overall academic performance of the students. The effects of lack of

computers in the laboratory of the said school which greatly affect the academic

performance of the students who are using the computers. This study will provide

specific suggestions on how to improve and provide sufficient school facilities

which greatly aids in the academic life of the students resulting to better learning

leading to a brighter future.

Synthesis

Our recovered Literature and study becomes more significant the support it

in our search, because of our recovered Literature and study this refers to the

ability of the computer in our school, so how it is important for students to more

have a skills and more knowledge. This research is regarding computer use

which and every student uses computer to further accelerate their notions and

more wisely their students and This research is more prove by Kumar and he

said, the “Schools and colleges around the world are using computer and

internet technologies to teach students digitally and creatively with data

visualization .Uses of the computer in a classroom will explore creatively and

imagination in student mind.” and this research revolves also here about the

laboratory used by students. This research is more prove by Haurulliza and he

said the“ Computer laboratories are also used to train and expose students on

computer programming, simulation and other subjects. The design and layout of

the laboratory is an important concern to ensure that the facility provides

maximum benefits to students.”

Definition of Term

A Computer is a machine or device that performs processes, calculations

and operations based on instructions provided by a software or hardware

program. It is designed to execute applications and provides a variety of

solutions by combining integrated hardware and software components.

A Computer Laboratory is a space which provides computer services to a

defined community. Computer labs are typically provided by libraries to the

public, by academic institutions to students who attend the institution, or by other

institutions to the public or to people affiliated with that institution.

ICT stands for "Information and Communication Technologies." ICT

refers to technologies that provide access to information through

telecommunications. It is similar to Information Technology (IT), but focuses

primarily on communication technologies. This includes the Internet, wireless

networks, cell phones, and other communication mediums.

A computer teacher might cover basic keyboarding and computer

functions for teenagers in public school or adults who are updating their work

skills in a night class, or they may teach more complicated elements of computer

science to college students.

23
COMMONWEALTH HIGH SCHOOL
Computer Education in schools plays important role in students career

development. Computer with the internet is the most powerful device that

students can use to learn new skills and more advanced version of current

lessons. ... In almost all business, companies, schools using computers for

various official operations.

26
COMMONWEALTH HIGH SCHOOL
Research Instruments

Considering the purposes of this study, the researchers have chosen a

interview research instrument. The interview research instrument is a design in

which data are collected through questionnaires or through personal interviews

with members of an identified population. The interview research design is critical

in determining the quality of research. It is very valuable tool for assessing

opinions and trends.

Data Gathering

The following steps followed in order to accomplish this qualitative research

paper;

Step 1: The researcher decided that the topic will be about the Negative effects

of online games.

Step 2: The proposed study had finished in checking the revision until its

approval.

Step 3: Preparation of interview questionnaire for the respondents, the

researcher that created a six questions that will check by the research teacher.

Step 4: The researcher starts to validated the interview questionnaire on the

three teachers with different subject on Senior High School, first is the Filipino

teachers, the second one is the English teacher and the last teacher is the ict

teacher

Step 5: After the Validation the researcher finalize the questionnaire for one on

one interview for respondents.

Step 6: The research ask the respondent before we start the Interview to the

Grade 11 and Grade 12 respondent for this study.

Step 7: After the interview of the six respondents the researchers are

encoding/transcript the answer of respondents and translated the Filipino

language into English language from the voice record.

Data Processing

In this research to get the various data is through interview. After the

interview is when we collected the data is we get a few answers to the same and

there are very few who have nothing different. The researcher collected the

answered from the respondent and the data. The processing of the research on

the interview is the audio clip or voice recorder from the phone to get in transcript

and translate it on English language for the respondent who answered Filipino

language.

COMMONWEALTH HIGH SCHOOL
CHAPTER 4

PRESENTATION ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

Qualitative data analysis can be described as the process of making sense

from research participants‟ views and opinions of situations, corresponding

patterns, themes, categories and regular similarities. The definition of qualitative

data analysis that serves as a good working definition: “.The qualitative data

analysis tends to be an ongoing and iterative process, implying that data

collection, processing, analysis and reporting are intertwined, and not necessarily

a successive process”. The qualitative data analysis is a process of

transformation of collected qualitative data, done by means of analytic

procedures, into a clear, understandable, insightful, trustworthy and even original

analysis.

Interview was conducted to the Senior High School students who are

sharing of computer in computer laboratory. After the consent for interviewer they

participate in the study, these students completed the interview questionnaires.

And based on their opinions their answers were coded using descriptive coding.

This study sought to answer the following question:

1.) What is the Problem faced by students who are sharing the computer in the

laboratory?

Most students who experienced sharing computer in the lab have different

feelings about sharing computer these students felt annoyed, uncomfortable,

29
COMMONWEALTH HIGH SCHOOL
unsatisfied and delimited. But some students said that they feel good about

sharing computer and also some other students Feels nothing or there’s no

problem about sharing of computer in the computer laboratory.

In the related literature many students share the computer with someone

because of lack of computer facilities and here is where the different feelings of

students start in sharing of computer.

In These Situation some students faced plenty of difficulties in the laboratory

for sharing the computer with someone else. They experienced shortage of time,

needed time management, can’t finish the task on time, having time pressure. In

other words they struggle the most about time because they said that sharing

computer with someone else is really time consuming. In the related literature

because of the lack of facilities more students cannot finish their given task.

They have different opinions in this kind of situation both positive and negative

opinion about sharing of computer and also they have different attitude. The

positive attitude is that they can help others to finish the task and also they can

contribute and respond to ideas then we have the negative attitude like it could

lead to cheating or someone could or maybe would copy your work and maybe

you won’t able to finish the task that is given.

30
COMMONWEALTH HIGH SCHOOL
When it comes to the effects of sharing computer there is a lot of response or

answers that may occur and here are some of their answers it may be risky, may

not be able to finish their work and won’t be able to finish the other task that is

given and but may also encounter different personalities in sharing a computer in

laboratory that may help you or could possibly lead you to good possibilities in

studies. Some also answered yes it may affect their studies because you’re not

The only one who will or has to use the computer and also it depends on your

computer if it’s going to work or not.

In the local related study, the lack of computer facilities may have an effect on

your overall academic performance of the student.

2.) How do senior high students minimize the problem encountered when

sharing computer in computer laboratory?

Some students find it hard to handle a situation like sharing computer in order

to finish the task given by their teacher but some of the students think in a

different way like if they finish the task early they could help the one who he/she

shares the computer with and finish the task that is given or they can also help

each other and other students answered that he/she will use another computer

that is vacant so that he/she can do the activities given. Some students prefer

focusing on their job and not talking or conversing with someone so they can

Finish it early.
31
COMMONWEALTH HIGH SCHOOL
3.) What do you think are the reasons why some students share a computer in

computer laboratory?

Sharing computer in computer the laboratory is really inconvenience so in

this part we will know the thoughts of some students why some students share

computer in computer laboratory. Some said that it’s because of lack of

computers and facilities and is limited also because students in our school

suddenly increase and because some computers are unable to use.

In the local related study the only one reason why some students share a

computer is because of the lack of facilities and it affects the students studies.
