LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 11 GENERAL MATHEMATICS

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of functions.

Performance Standard: The learner is able to accurately construct models to represent real-life
situations using functions.
I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
1. define composite function; and
2. perform composition of functions.
Code: M11GM-Ia-3b
I. SUBJECT-MATTER:

Materials: Laptop, Projector, Manila Paper, Pentel Pen, Activity Sheet, and Envelop with the
strips
Strategies: 4A’s
II. PROCEDURES:
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Review of the previous lesson through drill. Drill on the evaluation of functions.
2. Motivation
B. Presentation of the Lesson (4A’s)
Activity
Activity 1:
Mechanics:
Divide the class into 6 groups and ask them to work on the activity. Distribute
envelop with the strips to different groups. The students will be looking for strips
that answer the given functions and match. Then, they will post the answers on the
board. The first to complete the set will win the game. Give time limit. (5 minutes)
Activity 2:
Mechanics:
Let the students evaluate the given functions. Let them show their solutions on
a manila paper. Afterwards, try to call one representative of each group to present
their output. Few minutes will be given to them. (5 minutes)
Given: x = -2, -1, 0, 1, and 2
Group 1: f(x) = 3x +2 Group 4: f(x) = x2 + 3x - 4
Group 2: f(x) = 6x – 2 Group 6: f(x) = -5x + 2
Group 3: f(x) = 2x -1
Analysis
How did you find the activities? Did you enjoy?
How did you arrive with your final answer?
Based on the given activity, what have you learned?
Abstraction
Composite Functions:
Given two functions f and g, the composite function denoted by f o g is
defined by (f o g)(x) = f(g(x)).
Application
Mechanics:
The same group to perform. The activities prepared aim to understand the concept
of a composite function. The first group to finish and form the correct order of the
poem is the winner. Refer to the attached activity sheet. (5 minutes)

III. EVALUATION:
1. Define composite function.
For numbers 2 to 3. Given f(x) = 5x-3 and g(x)= x2-3x+2, perform the following:
1. (f o g) (x) 3. (g o f) (x) 4. (g o g) (x) 5. (f o f) (x)

IV. ASSIGNMENT:
1. Given: f(x) = 2x + 3 and f(g(x)) = 2x -3. Find g(x).
2. Given: f(g(x)) = 3x2+12x+16 and g(x) = x+2. Find f(x).
