1. General Information:
a. Entries from the Schools must be received by CGGU no later than Monday 13th May 2019.
b. Primary school players must be at the school on a full time basis, no older than 13 years of age
(at the time of the finals) and not in a higher grade than grade 7
c. A Primary school team will consist of 4 players.
d. The Primary Schools Championship Qualifier will be decided over 18 holes of strokeplay.
e. In the Primary Schools qualifier the best 3 strokeplay gross scores will be added up and the
school with the lowest overall total will be declared the winner.
f. Maximum shots per hole will be limited to 4 over par. I.E. on a par 4 if a player has played
his/her 7th shot and still not in the hole the player will enter a ring 8 on their scorecard.
g. In case of scores being tied – the 4th players score will be used to decide the count out. Should
this method still not result in an overall winner a count out will be done between the nr 1
Players of the teams, if the scores are tied, a count out at nr 2, if the scores are still tied, a count
out at nr 3 if the scores are still tied. If it is still impossible to declare a winner, the winning
school will be determined by the toss of a coin.
h. All costs of the school playing in the Union Qualifier will be for the expense of the school.
i. Players will be allowed to play for the school he attends irrespective of where the player is
handicapped. Players do not need to me a member of a club to participate in this event.
j. As this is a schools event no provincial colours will be awarded. The players may represent the
school in their respective school colours.
k. The Qualifier will be played in one Division, the Championship Division.
l. The top two schools in the Championship Division will qualify for the National Finals, which will
be played at Magalies Park GC on the 5th and 6th August 2019.
m. All costs of the school playing in the National Finals Championship will be for the expense of the
school. The CGGU will provide a contribution towards those costs.

2. Entry
a. Entry fee is per team is R720, which includes greenfees and halfway house (includes VAT);
b. Entries close at 12h00 (noon) on 13th May 2018.
c. A school must complete an entry form and submit it along with the entry fee. This can be e-
mailed to growgolf@cggu.co.za.
d. All information required in the entry form must be provided accurately, legibly and in full;
e. The onus is on the entrant to ensure that their entry has been received by CGGU, in accordance
with the Conditions of Competition outlined herein.
f. The Entrant’s Declaration, on the Entry Form must be signed by the appointed representative of
the school. No telephonic or postal entries will be accepted;
g. On no account will entry fees be refunded unless an entrant withdraws prior to the closing of
entries.
h. All entries shall be subject to the approval of CGGU who reserves the right to refuse any entry
without giving reason. The decision of CGGU as to the acceptance or refusal of any entry shall be
final.
i. Schools may be limited to the number of entries they can submit.

3. Rules of Golf
a. The Tournament will be held in accordance with the Rules of Golf as approved by the R&A Rules
Ltd and the Additional rules of the host club. All entrants are advised to familiarize themselves
with these Additional Local Rules.

6. Transportation
a. Players may not ride on any form of transportation during a stipulated round unless authorized
by CGGU.

7. Time of Starting (Note to Rule 5-3a)


a. If a player arrives at his starting time, ready to play, within five minutes after his starting time,
the penalty for failure to start on time is two strokes in stroke play. Penalty for lateness beyond
five minutes is disqualification.

8. Dress Code
a. Players are required to comply with the prescribed dress code of the host club. Any player not
conforming to these dress codes will disqualify themselves from participating and therefore will
be told to leave the golf club until such time that they conform to these dress codes.

9. COMPETITION RULES:
a. All players to tee off the RED tees.
b. Tee-off and draw will be available from the website www.cggu.co.za. The draw will also be e-
mailed to all participating schools.
c. Slow play: Please take note that slow play will not be tolerated and will be dealt with strictly in
accordance with the rules of golf.
d. Note: It is the player’s responsibility to ascertain his tee-off time beforehand and to report on
time.
e. Non-arrivals: Players who enter and do arrive will be dealt with in accordance with the Code of
Conduct of CGGU.
f. Note: Parents, friends & family to stay at least 40m away from Players and must not interfere
with play. No rulings or advice to players must be given, verbally or by hand signals.
g. The use of cell phones, mp3 or iPods is strictly forbidden during play.
h. The use of distance measuring devices will be permitted as long as they are conforming.
i. Please note that for the qualifier players may use caddies, but not in the National Finals
j. No electronic, battery operated carts are allowed.
k. Halfway House will be grab-n-go and is included in the entry fee, should a player wish to take
something else or additional, this will be for their own account.

10. Exemption of Liability:


a. The Host Club, Central Gauteng Golf Union and their management will not be held responsible
for any damages, loss, including
b. Personal loss and or other forms of loss, harm or injury sustained as stipulated below:
c. Physical and/or emotional injuries suffered during the tournament/championship, due to any
acts of God, suffered as a direct result thereof, including aspects such as being struck by
lightning, etc.
d. Physical injuries of any kind suffered by any person, including a player or spectator sustained by
own negligence, or otherwise.
e. Emotional injuries sustained due to any loss, including death, suffered as a result of any of the
above injuries sustained personally or by a spectator.
f. Damages suffered to any property of a player.
g. The appointed representative of the school acknowledges the exemption of liability of the Union
and its management as listed above when he signs the acknowledgement. He also
acknowledges the contents of the above, understands it, and exempts the Host Club and Union
from any liability as indicated above.
h. The Host Club and Union does not warrant or guarantee the safety of any person.

11. GolfRSA National Final


a. The 2019 Ernie Els South African Primary School National Championship will be played on the 5th
and 6th August at Magalies Park GC.
b. The union will contribute towards the costs of the two qualifying teams.
