Forest Fire Causes Respiratory Infections (ARI)

Forest fires, Major fires or bush fires, a fire that occurred in wild nature, But
also can destroy houses and agricultural land around it. Common causes
includelightning, human carelessnessand combustion, Dry season and a small forest
fire prevention is a major cause of large forest fires.

Smoke coming from forest fires (wood and other organic) contains a mixture of
gases, particles and chemicals due to the fire that is not perfect. The composition of the
forest fire smoke is composed of gases such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide,
nitrogen oxides, ozone, sulfur dioxide and others. particles arising from forest fires can
disebutsebagai particulate matter (PM). One cause of the excessive smoke one of them
can lead to respiratory infection. (Faisal, 2012)

According to Nelson, 2002. ARI symptoms Questioning the truth is not only one or
two signs only. Therefore, an infection that attacks the upper respiratory this can lead to
a variety of complaints. Here are some of the symptoms commonly experienced ISPA
infected.
 Nasal congestion and runny nose.
 Dry cough without phlegm.
 Mild fever.
 Sore throat.
 Mild headache.
 Fast breathing or trouble breathing.
 Bluish color of the skin due to lack of oxygen.
 Symptoms of sinusitis such as facial pain, runny nose, and fever.

Nose to the bronchi lined a ciliated mucous membranes and in between there are
goblet cells. This is so that the incoming air through the nasal cavity is filtered, warmed
and humidified. The nose also has a protective system of coarse dust particles and
bacteria, ie, fine hair in the nasal cavity, the cilia in the mucosa and palut mucus
produced by mucous glands and goblet cells. These cilia movement, will encourage
palut mucus behind the nasal cavity and into the pharynx. The dust or smoke particles
will adhere to the mucus palut and large particles will be issued with a sneeze reflex.
(Herliana, 2015)
However, if these particles do not come out through sneezing reflex, then he will
stick to the mucosa of the nose, mouth and throat that are directly subject to exposure to
dust or fumes. This condition will cause an allergic reaction, inflammation and possibly
infection. Inflammation will stimulate the release of excessive secretions, it is a good
medium for bacterial growth. Because the cilia movement will push palut mucus back
into the nasal cavity and into the pharynx, then dust or bacteria in the nose will move
towards the lower respiratory tract. As a result of exposure to dust and fumes can be
narrowed airways and mucus production will continue to rise. If this has happened,
then one can hardly breathe until the bacteria can not be excluded, attracted foreign
objects get into the respiratory tract and respiratory tract infections there, one of which
ISPA. (Herliana, 2015)
