Speech

of our Master Doctor Moulay Jamal Eddine Al Qadiri Boutchich,

may Allah be pleased with him,
on the occasion of the sacred evening of Mawlid 2019

In the name of God, the Compassionate , the Merciful, the praise is due to God, Lord of
all the worlds, and prayers be upon the Prophet who was sent as a mercy to the all the
worlds, the resplendent torch, the guide to the right path, and as well upon his family
and his companions.

Dear rememberers of God (dhakiruna wa dhakirat)

At this blessed and majestic moment and on this sacred evening, we commemorate the
birth of the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him, the one who was sent as a mercy
for all the worlds, who said:

“I have names. I am Mohamed, I am Ahmed, I am Al Mâhî (the one by whom disbelief is
erased), I am Al Hachir (the one behind whom people will be gathered) and I am Al Aqib
(the one after which there is no prophet).”

He was, peace and blessings be upon him, a guide and a leader who spared this
community from misery and suffering, the beloved, the master of masters, the most
generous, the most beautiful and the most immense in character, the one whose life and
teachings constitute for us an ethical heritage thanks to which we may become a firm
community and civilization. But unhappily, we have become like “the foam of the
torrent” (expression taken from a hadith meaning that we have become useless and
unproductive) and we have fallen to the lowest level.

Dear disciples, if we analyze this, we will realize that the cause comes from the fact that
we have forgotten God, and He, therefore, has made us forget ourselves. “Do not be
1
among those who have forgotten God, Allah made them forget their own soul.” We have
also moved away from the precepts of our religion and the teachings of our Prophet,
peace and blessings be upon on him, the story of whose life, describing his actions and
words, is inspiring for the muslim in more ways than one.

Among the prerequisites of the highest priority is therefore the need to return as soon as
possible to the precepts of the Book of Allah and to the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace
and blessings be upon him, in accordance with the word of Allah: “And hold on all of you
together to the "habl" (rope) of Allah and do not be divided” (Qur'an) so that we become
brothers who aid each other in good action, who recommend good and who forbid evil,
as it is written by Allah in the verse: “You are the best community that has arisen for
people, you command what is right and you forbid the blameworthy”, while trying to
help the poor and the needy by following the prophetic saying: “Be merciful towards
people on the Earth so that Allah may be merciful to you”, as well as his saying: “He who
is not merciful will not find mercy in his favour.”

Furthermore, it is necessary to note that the current state of Muslims is marked by an
excessive love of the lower world and its ornaments as well as profiting from illicit
money, forgetting the eternal wisdom of ‘Labid’(an Arab poet): “Is not everything apart
from God an illusion; and is not all grace doomed to disappear?” For this reason, I
recommend to the disciples of this blessed way to work for the good and to love all
creatures and to stay categorically away from illicit money by taking as their example the
Prophet, peace and blessings upon him, who lived as the poor people live. Did he not say,
peace and salvation on him, in one of these famous prayers: “May Allah count me among
the poor (‘miskeen’), may he take my soul while I am poor, and may he resurrect me
amongst the poor.” Therefore, I take you as witness, dear disciples, that I am a poor man
(‘miskeen’) and I love the poor and I have chosen for myself the habit of poverty which
never disappears and this is innate and rooted in my nature since childhood because this
station of poverty in God (‘maskana’) is one of the great stations. So, I advise you to
remain poor in your states and to be rich by your Lord, to be rich on the level of the
outward, and poor on the level of the inward. Work diligently to gain what is lawful and
keep away from the unlawful; be pious, work for good and forbid evil.

I also recommend that you invoke God abundantly in accordance with the Qur'anic verse:
“Surely by the invocation of God are hearts made tranquil”, and His Words “... the day
when neither possessions nor children will be of any use except for the one who comes
to Allah with a pure and peaceful heart”. And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon
on him, added: “the world and what it contains is cursed except for the remembrance of
2
Allah and what follows from it (as a practice), and for one who knows and one who seeks
knowledge.” The one who remembers is alive and the one who forgets is dead. One of
the great saints said in a poem:

“Dhikr is the supreme door through which you will return to God;
Try not to let a single breath escape without it.
And the heart is the best place for dhikr;
You will sow the Dhikr in the garden of this place.”

Allah is good and only accepts the good and whoever wants to reach the Divine Presence
must ensure that his heart is protected from unlawful and doubtful things, and to purify
himself, because Allah is pure and accepts only the pure. The Prophet, peace and
blessings be upon him, said on this subject:

“Purify yourself by whatever you find as a means because Islam is based on purity and
only one who is pure will return to paradise.”

The secret of Allah is precious and it is up to the faqir or faqirat to preserve it by
respecting the provisions of the sharia and diligence in the practice of Dhikr.

Dear remembers of Allah (dhakiruna wa dhakirat), know that the People of God have all
agreed that dhikr is an individual obligation for every Muslim. Man can be led astray into
making mistakes and he or she may commit small or large sins during their day. What is
the means to purify oneself of these sins? The solution lies in the dhikr which represents
a soap for hearts, as affirmed from the companion Abu Darda, may Allah be pleased with
him, who relates (the saying of the Prophet): “Everything has a polish and the polish of
hearts is the dhikr of Allah.”

Forgive me dear invocators if I dwell a little on the subject of dhikr because it is an
essential prerequisite for those who desire the Face of Allah and as it is often repeated:
“Our dowry is expensive for those who desire us”, or, “..and if you desire something, you
will have to pay the price.”

I therefore recommend that you practice dhikr in abundance and thank God for the
immense secret which He has given us in this blessed way and in this protected country.

Furthermore, I also invite you to spread this Path and to communicate it to friends,
relatives and those who are students. Each mureed (seeker/disciple) must succeed in
3
communicating the Path to ten people of their acquaintance, so that they may taste the
delights of this secret, delights that only the one who has been able to taste will
recognize, as has been said:

“He who has tasted, has certainly known”, or,“ the one who knows a knower of Allah
(al’arif) will be a knower of Allah.”

Our way is therefore known by invocation (dhikr) and not by thought and reflection (fikr).
Happy is the one who has had the possibility of knowing this path and invoking
assiduously, because the secret which is found there is a cure for all the diseases of the
heart and the soul. These are truthful words that are already tested, and, as it is said,
“the father does not lie to his family”. To this end, I heard my grandfather many times
asking the people of dhikr to go and find a way that has a greater secret than we have in
ours, and assure them that he himself would accompany them in such a case to drink
from this secret.

Amongst them, some did indeed try in vain to seek for better than we have in this way.
By the grace of Allah, they are still on the path, and we ask on this occasion for their
success and that they put down roots in it. The Sufis say:

“He who has had the authorization to do dhikr has indeed received the title of friendship
of God, and he who has been deprived of dhikr, he has been set aside.”, or, “When we
strike at the door of the generous, it opens”, and God affirms:

“We grant abundantly to all, these as well as those, gifts of your Lord. And the gifts of
your Lord are not refused [to anyone].”

This path has spread far and will spread further in the four corners of the world, and this
is what our father, may Allah sanctify his soul, announced through his famous quote:

“Our way is a universal way. You will see wonders in it, and it is a healing for all
humanity.”

And, in fact, today we have disciples of the Path in Africa, Europe, Asia and America and
in different countries.

4
Know that our call to communicate the way is not intended to gain notoriety because the
People of God do not like that, but it is a desire to make people taste the secret that is in
it because as Abdullah Bin ‘Awn says:

“The mention of people is a disease and the mention of God is a cure.”

Indeed, this secret constitutes a cure! A cure for heart and soul, for diseases such as
resentment, jealousy, hatred and extremism. And speaking of these plagues, I would like
to point out that our way is a real fortress of protection for young people, in particular
against deviation, delinquency and extremism and will root in their hearts the love of
God, of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and the King (of Morocco),
obedience to whom is cited in the Qur’an as being an obligation. God indeed says,

“O you who believe, obey God, the prophet and those of you who hold command.”

Dear fuqara and faqirats, it is important to create meetings in different districts and in
small cities in order to bring the assemblies of dhikr closer to the seekers and disciples,
but we insist also that they go to the main zawiya of the city or region as well as the
mother zawiyya in Madagh, to visit the Master, because it revives hearts, as it is said:
“Zourou tnourou” (visit the master and you will be illumined). We also recall, in passing,
the need to visit the brothers who no longer attend the ‘ijtima in order to resolve their
problems and motivate them to join the ‘ijtima again. Support each other and be merciful
to each other and do not reveal the faults of your brothers or sisters. It is up to everyone
to take care of their own faults instead of paying attention to those of others!

I also ask you to take care of the young people because they represent the future of the
Path, and, as such, I congratulate those amongst them who come on the occasion of each
event of the Tariqa, to participate in the various works at the Zawiya - security,
construction, maintenance ... We ask Allah to protect them and grant all their wishes and
we announce to them the good news brought by the Prophet on this subject, peace and
blessings be upon him: “Two eyes will not be touched by hell - an eye that has stood
guard in the Way of Allah and an eye that has wept for fear of Allah.” I therefore
encourage you to continue to send volunteers from amongst the young people for
service during major events organized by the Tariqa.

I do not fail to underline also the attention which you need to pay to our
recommendations and instructions; study them, and look for the means to put them into
practice, without forgetting also your positive commitment to communication and
5
outreach events (organized in several cities of the kingdom) that we have authorized and
which have produced satisfactory results.

Dear brothers and sisters, the objective of creating local meetings is to lift the barriers for
disciples who live far from the zawiya and who cannot therefore easily attend the circles
of dhikr (‘ijtima), as recommended by the sunnah and mentioned in the hadith when the
Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

“There is not a time when people gather in one of the houses of Allah to recite the Book
of Allah and to study it among themselves, without serenity descending on them, that
mercy does not cover them, that the angels do not surround them with their wings and
that Allah does not mention them before those who are near him.”

This proves that the dhikr at the time of difficulty is one of the means of finding ease, and
as it is customary to say: “Grace is achieved by the one who is present in the ‘ijtima.”
We make these efforts because we know that remoteness from the assemblies of dhikr is
the cause of all suffering and failure, according to the verse where Allah says:

“Turn away from the one who has abandoned our remembrance and who has desired
only the life of here below.” and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, adds:
“I advise you to be within the group, because the wolf only eats the lost sheep.”

The People of God call upon their disciples not to abandon the assemblies of dhikr and
not to push people to come to the gatherings, but call to them by what they are attracted
to, such as the image of the Prophet, and from divine authorization:

“O Prophet, we have sent you as a witness, an announcer of good news and as a warner
and a caller of people to God by his authorisation and as a resplendent torch,” and “Allah
knows to whom to entrust his messages.”

This secret, dear brothers and dear sisters, is not known by words, by study of books, or
by attending conferences, because it is a science of taste (one which is acquired by taste
and not by books). Our Path is a path of knowledge and action (‘ilm wa ’amal ), and
encourages us to be useful for our homeland, and its disciples are made up mainly of
active and dynamic young people who have been educated and trained by the Path (to
become doctors, lawyers, university professors and others). Thus, whoever considers
that Sufism encourages us to remain isolated and to withdraw from society is completely
mistaken. Sufism is Islam in all its purity, it is the heart of Islam, and the station of
6
excellence. It is also a healing for all hearts and souls, a cure for diseases that many
doctors cannot treat. The Sufis are the most pious predecessors, and are the servants of
the Qur’an and the Sunnah, and as I often heard from the mouth of my Grandfather who
affirmed, in various assemblies and on several occasions, that Sufism is summed up in the
following verse:

“What the Prophet gives you, take it and what he forbids you, forbid it to yourselves.”,
and my Father added to this in his famous quote: "Sufism is a way of ethics, of passion
and tastes (for and from Allah).”

Before closing this speech, I would like to extend my warmest thanks to our dear well
pleasing son Doctor Sidi Mounir for all his efforts to enable this World Symposium of
Sufism Conference to take place, and to enable the success that you are aware of, as I
thank at the same time the brothers and sisters who have participated in the
organization of the event – “Allah will be a support for the servant as long as the latter is
a support for his brother.”

It is also essential to remember the importance of the subject of development, on which
this edition of the conference has focused, and which must motivate the interests of the
fuqara and faqirates, in order to allow our country to rise to the rank of great nations on
all levels in accordance with the will of His Majesty the King, who calls on the citizens to
create a new model of development.

And in conclusion, I ask Allah the most High by the lights of Al Fatiha, to protect from all
evils those who have come to this house and, to allow their states to improve and to root
them in this blessed way until they meet God in happiness and bliss.

May Allah grant you happiness in this life and beyond, protect your children and grant
them success in their studies so that they become eminent persons who serve their
nations and the common interest in general. We also implore Allah with all our heart, to
grant a very good health and a long life to his Majesty King Mohamed VI and to protect
his son the crown prince Moulay Hassan, to preserve our country and to spread peace
there and stability and to crown with success the efforts undertaken to resolve the
Sahara conflict, and to allow the Arab Maghreb Union to materialize in order to allow our
nations to live in prosperity, and to spread peace in the countries of the Gulf as well as in
all other countries. Wa lhamdu lillahi rabbi l'âlamîne.
