Action Research Proposal

TITLE PAGE : THE IMPACT OF COMPREHENSION IN SOLVING MATH

PROBLEMS IN GRADE 2 LEARNERS IN NOVALLAS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

I. CONTEXT AND RATIONALE

Novallas Elementary School is a public school situated at Brgy. Novallas ,

Tanjay City. It has a distance of 7 kilometers away from the heart of the city. The

roads are plain and rough that has made the pupils hard in arriving the school.

Most of the pupils come from the neighboring hacienda that’s why parents of

the said pupils are rendering services to the wealthy family as farmers. The pupils

need to cross the rivers in order to reach the school. That sometime in 1968, edu-

cation started until present. The total land area of the school is 6,431 and is under

the usufruct contract.

The reseach will be the impact of comprehension in grade II pupils of

Novallas Elementary School in problem solving for the school year 2019-2020.
The research focused about familiarizing the four fundamental operations

In Mathematics in order to analize mathematical word problems skills

comprehension. Furthermore it will develop the learners to condition their mind

like “Ivan Pavlov Conditioning Theory”.

II. ACTION RESEARCH QUESTION

In this research the following questions will be posed:

1. How could you solve problem solving skills in mathematics?

2. How could you integrate mathematics in your everyday life situations?

3. What life would be without mathematics?

III. PROPOSED INNOVATION, INTERVENTION AND STRATEGY

Various flashcards drills of four fundamental operations, will be utilized as

intervention, another is the window cards of my dear aunt sally. Mathematical

expressions such as deminished, subtracted,take away, multiplied, divided, and

many other strategies and interventions.

IV. ACTION RESEARCH METHODS


A case study of 40 pupils in Novallas Elementary School for the school year

2019-2020. The researcher utilized the following methods : Cross word Puzzles,

Mathematical expressions, Vocabulary building,

Paper pencil test, Numeracy test, clasical conditioning theory of “Ivan Pavlov” for

example the researcher utilize this theory by giving the learners a story examples

that condition their mind to study and learn more in Mathematics and even in

problem solving. Like Ivan Pavlov and his dogs. Another is by means of data

gathering method, by giving them pre- test and post test results about Mathematical

problems.

VII. PLANS FOR DISSEMINATION AND UTILIZATION

If the effect of the impact of comprehension in solving Mathematics problems in

grade II and by using the various methods mentioned like conditioning theory of

Pavlov is effective, then the academic performance of our Grade II pupils in Novallas

Elementary School is successful.

After this study , I would suggest that it will be utilized for the next school year

2020-2021
