The Foundations of Architecture

Throughout my childhood, I have always found Architecture extremely fascinating. Architects

work in the Construction Industry designing new buildings within the spaces around them.

Conservation and Restoration of vintage homes can also be the task of an Architect. As an

Architect, you will almost always work indoors, but occasionally you way visit construction

sites to help make sure your design is piecing together. Architects find themselves working

within several feet of other co-workers, which helps bring a lot of creative energy into the room.

The average salary for an Architect is around $76,930, with a project 10-year growth of 7%. To

help fulfill my Architecture career, I can begin focusing on specific classes that will help in the

future. Classes such as, Geometry and Calculus, will help me prepare for my major in College.

Architecture has found it’s fascinating way into my life, and I plan on majoring for it in College.

In my research I have found the top 3 schools for majoring in Architecture: Cornell University,

Rice University, and California Polytechnic State University. Throughout researching all the

universities, I am most interested in attending Rice University inside of Houston Texas. Rice

University is known for their extreme dedication and incredible programs for Architecture. Rice

is home to the Owls and has been since 1912. The Department Chair of Architecture at Rice

University is Professor John J. Casbarian. The ACT Requirements for admission are between a

32-35. The SAT Scores involve getting between a 690-770 on the Reading and Writing Portion,

and a 720-800 on the Math Portion. Rice University is ranked 15th in National Rankings in the
United States. However, it is an extremely small school with around 7,000 students and an 11%

acceptance rate. It will take approximately 5 years to graduate to obtain my Bachelor of Arts

Degree in Architecture. I do only plan on obtaining by bachelor’s Degree. Lastly, I plan on

obtaining some scholarships to help lower the price of attending Rice, but also relying on my

parents to help pay the rest. They helped pay for my brother’s college and I believe they plan on

helping me pay also.

After I graduate Rice University, I will need to start planning on obtaining a job. I will start off

by sending my resumes into different Architecture Companies in hopes of landing my first full-

time job. I can start off as an Architect’s assistant and try to work my way up through the

company throughout my time working there. My dream would be to work with Wakefield

Beasley and Associates Architects Incorporated. They are located inside of Alpharetta and focus

on perfecting the Avalon Shopping Center Lifestyle. The CEO over the company is Lamar

Wakefield John Beasley Jr. I would like to work with them because Alpharetta is extremely

close to my grandparents, who have lived there for over 50 years.

In conclusion, Architecture has always been a big role throughout my life. It would be my dream

to let my creativity flow and design buildings that are created by me and follow the process

along with it. It would be a honor to watch buildings grow and visit the construction sites of

structures that I created. Architecture is a very meticulous, yet beautiful major to have.

Architecture is a form of art that I am excited to take part in, no matter where I go to school. As

long as I can do what I love, nothing else matters.
