LESSON PLAN IN MAPEH 9

I. Objectives:

1. Content Standard:

 The learner demonstrates understanding of the dangers of substance use and abuse
on the individual, family and community.

2. Performance standard:

 The learner shares responsibility through participation in collective action to prevent


and control substance use and abuse.

3. Learning Competencies:

 Explains the concept of drugs of abuse.

4. Objectives:

The learners will be able to:

 Describe the drug scenario in the Philippines;


 Apply decision-making and resistance skills to prevent substance use and abuse; and
 Perform activities that suggest prevention on drug abuse

II. Subject Matter


1. Topic : Drug/Substance Use and Abuse
2. Reference : Teacher’s Guide page 286-289
3. Materials: Marker, Powerpoint Presentation, Television, Printed Pictures, Small Cards
III. Learning Task
1. Review
 What is Drug?
 What are the common terms related to drugs?
2. Motivation “Whatcha Think?”
 The teacher will show different pictures/scenario.
 The learner will give an idea or opinion of what the picture is all about.
3. Lesson Proper
3.1 Activity “Sine Mo ‘To”
 The learners will be grouped into 6.
 The teacher will prepare 6 different situations.
 Each group will pick only 1 situation.
 The learners will act or make a short play about the situation assigned to them.
3.2 Analysis
 What is drug of abuse?
 What are the six classification of drugs?
 What do you think are the possible effects of these drugs on our body?

3.3 Abstraction
 Drugs of abuse are drugs commonly abused by users.
 Gateway Drugs such as cigarettes and alcohol are legal drugs that a drug user
might try, which can lead him/her to more dangerous drug such as shabu.
 Depressant drugs slow down a person’s central nervous system, it relax muscles
and nerves.
 Stimulant drugs speed up a person’s central nervous system, it makes the person’s
energy high.
 Narcotics are drugs which relieve pain and induce sleepiness.
 Hallucinogens are drugs which distorts reality and facts, it affects all senses and
makes a user feels something that doesn’t exist.
 Inhalants are found in ordinary household chemical products and anesthetics.

3.4 Application “Talent-Todo”


 The learners will be grouped into 3.
 The teacher will prepare tasks for each group.
 Each group will pick one task.
 The learner will suggest ways and prevention of drugs of abuse through the task
assigned to them.
 They will be graded through the following criteria:

Creativity 30%
Relevance to the topic 30%
Delivery 30%
Lesson Gained 10%
TOTAL: 100%

IV. Assessment
¼ sheet of paper

2. What kind of drug that speeds up a person’s central nervous system and makes the person’s

3. What do you call the drugs which distorts reality and makes a user feels something that doesn’t

1. Research the different myths, misconception, signs and symptoms of drug abuse.
