The internship opportunity I have with GAZEBO CONSTRUCTIONS is a great chance for
learning and professional development. Therefore, I consider myself as a very lucky individual
as I was provided with an opportunity to be a part of it. I am also grateful for having a chance to
meet so many wonderful people and professionals who led me though this internship period.
I am using this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude and special thanks to the Project
manager (Mr. BALWINDER SINGH) & Project supervisor (Mr. KALA SINGH) who in spite of
being extraordinarily busy with his duties, took time out to hear, and allowing me to carry out
my project at their esteemed organization and extending during the training.
I would also thank Civil Engineering Department, Thapar Institute of Engg. and Tech who has
given me this opportunity to explore, learn and enhance my practical knowledge and gave me
industrial exposure so as to see future career aspects.
I would also thank Dr. SARBJIT SINGH Civil Engineering Department, for extending support
and guiding me throughout the project semester.

1. INTRODUCTION
The Hyundai showroom constructed will consist of basement, ground floor and 2 ramps
spacious enough for the movement of cars. The construction of the showroom started in
early June and will hopefully complete at the end of November. The front is 80ft wide
and the length is 234ft. The site is located at main Sirhind road to attract maximum
customers. Total land required for the project is 2050 yards. The showroom will be RCC
framed and it is being located at the corner location so sufficient ventilation ducts and
windows can be provided at will for well lighting and ventilation.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES:-
Since there is no other Hyundai showroom in the region, it will provide access to all the
branded vehicles manufactured by Hyundai.
A) SURVEYING
Survey is the first step done in any construction site so as to get required level of the surface.
Generally auto level or total station is used for surveying. Boundaries were established from
surveying. In our case surveying was done by plane table.
B) EXCAVATION
After establishing boundaries from survey excavation begins. In general, Excavation means to
loosen and take out materials leaving space above or below ground. Excavation in most
situations now a days is done by mechanical means.
Crawler Excavator
Dumper Excavator
During rainy seasons excavation should be avoided as it will lead to accumulation of water in the
hole and this will require dewatering. The depth of the digging is 18ft from the normal ground
level(NGL).
C) PREPARATION OF SOIL BED
Compaction is the process of increasing the density of soil by mechanical means by packing soil
particles closer together with reduction of air voids and to obtain to homogeneous soil mass
having improved soil properties.
(c) Increase density and reduces permeability, thereby reducing susceptibility to change moisture
content.
Foundation was laid at depth of 7ft. Isolated footing is being used at our site.
ISOLATED FOOTING
An isolated footing is used to support the load on a single column. It is usually square or
rectangular in plan. It represents the simplest, most economical type and most widely used
foundation. Isolated footings are used in case of light column loads, when columns are not
closely spaced.
Two type of footing are used, one is eccentric rigid spread footing (for outer columns) and
centric rigid spread footing (for inner columns). Both are sloping type footings.
This footing is being used for outer boundary columns. Only one size of this footing is used. The
size of the footing is it measures 6 ft X 6 ft at base and measures 2.5 feet in height above the
PCC layer. The detailing of the footing is that it has 16mm dia bars as the longitudinal
reinforcement and 12mm dia bars as distribution reinforcement both with 8mm spacing c/c with
8mm 2L rings.
2. CENTRIC RIGID SPREAD FOOTING:
This footing is being used for inner columns. 2 size of this footing is used. The smaller size of
the footing is it measures 3.5 m X 3.5m at base and measures 3 feet in height above the PCC
layer. The detailing of the footing is that it has 16mm dia bars as the longitudinal reinforcement
and 16mm dia bars as distribution reinforcement both with 8mm spacing c/c with 8mm 2L rings.
The larger size of the footing measures 4m X 4m at the base and has same height and the
reinforcement detailing same as smaller footing.
F) CONSTRUCTION OF RETAINING WALL
The retaining wall consists of 9 inch thickness with 8 and 10mm dia bars with 6 and 8 inch
spacing c/c respectively. The retaining wall construction started with arranging of reinforcement
bars and shuttering after the arrangement. The concreting was done by spray nozzle and concrete
was being ordered from mixing plant of M 25 grade.
F) CONSTRUCTION OF COLUMNS
Column or pillar in architecture and structural engineering is a structural element that transmits,
through compression the weight of the structure above to other structural elements below. In
other words, a column is a compression member.
Grade of concrete=M25
STARTER
Starter may be defined as a base structure before casting of column to keep column in fixed
position and to erect form-work.
1. FILLING OF STARTERS
Markings were made on the column positions using indigo dipped thread from the reference
points. Starter shuttering was placed in position and fixed in position using the welding. The
starters were filled using hand mixed concrete.
2. COLUMN REINFORCEMENT
Column reinforcement was provided according to the drawing and code followed was IS456.
Check for verticality using plumb bob. Did the correction if required.
4.CONCRETING
All the required equipment were checked and nozzle vibrators were provided with electrical
supply.
Concrete was transported near site using transit mixer and was reached to required level
using pipes.
The concrete was then placed in the column with manual labor.
A beam is a structural element that is capable of withstanding load primarily by resisting against
bending. The bending force induced into material of beam as a result of external
loads, ownweights, span and external reactions to these loads is called bending moment.
Formwork
Concreting
Curing
1) BEAM REINFORCEMENT WORK
STIRRUPS:
2) FORMWORK
The formwork is done to retain concrete. Shutter plates were fixed in desired position.
3) CONCRETING
Laying of concrete is done after shuttering. Concrete is ordered from RMC plant.
After casting removal of side formwork is done after 3 days. Bottom part is removed after 21
days.
4) CURING
After casting curing is done so that concrete can gain sufficient strength.
