Question No.1: Understanding school children on social perspectives is essential in our


society. We have learners from different societies carrying different cultures and identities.
What are the social issues existing in schools nowadays? As a leader, how will you manage
them to ensure the welfare of the learners?

There are things to be considered when it comes to social issues existing in the school today
like:

1. Classroom Size
2. Poverty
3. Family Factors
4. Technology
5. Bullying
6. Student Attitudes and Behaviors
7. No child left behind
8. Parent Involvement

To ensure the welfare of the learners we need to determine issues for action and develop the
implementation of student welfare actions and initiatives. The government schools need to
be places where every student can learn and grow with confidence. Students develop best in
schools where teaching and learning occur in a context of student welfare. Develop action
plans relating to student welfare. Implement student welfare actions and school discipline
policy and planning and reporting processes.

Context in student welfare in Government Schools:

A. Effective learning and teaching.


B. Positive climate and good discipline.
C. Community participation.
D. Enjoyment from learning.
E. Make a useful contribution to the life of the school.
F. Enjoy success and recognition.
G. Recognizes the diversity within the school community and provides programs and
support which acknowledge difference and promote harmony.

I. Provides ongoing educational services to support the learners.
J. Stresses the value of collaborative early intervention when problems are identified.
K. Incorporates effective discipline.

Question No.2: Progressivism contend that truth is universal and unchanging. How can
you relate that stand of progressivists to the current educational system of our country?
What are the issues branching out from this?

Progressivism is a multi-faceted philosophy advocating progress and change.


Progressives work toward what they hope will be better conditions, implement what they
consider more to enlightened ideas and new experimental methods to facilitate change.
Progressivism is the support for or advocacy of social reform. It is based on the idea of
progress, which asserts that advancements in science, technology, economic
development and social organization are vital to the improvement of the human
condition.

There are four goals to be achieved in progressivism these are:

1. Protect social welfare


2. Promote moral improvement
3. Create economic reform
4. Foster efficiency

Progressivist believe that individuality, progress, and change are fundamental to one’s
education. Believing that people learn best from what they consider most relevant to
their lives, progressivists center their curricula on the needs, experiences, interest and
abilities of students.

Progressivism is an educational movement that students learn through their own


experiences. Progressivism revolves around the student’s needs, including teaching
students to be good citizens as well as good learners, a concept known as focusing on
the whole child.

Progressive education is essentially a view of education that emphasizes the need to


learn by doing. It is a response to traditional methods of teaching. It is defined as
educational movement which gives more value to experience than formal learning. It is
based more experiential learning that concentrate on the development of child’s
development.

Question No.3: All educational activities, from classroom practice to curriculum


decisions to the setting of policies at the school to the national level, inevitably rest upon
philosophical assumptions, claims, and positions. Can you give DepEd policies, rules,
orders which are contradicting with one another? What is the implication of that to your
workplace? How do you address the concern?

There are many issues and concerns in the school to be done concerning for the
development of every learner. There are some policies and rules implied to our work place.
These may help to promote and support the DepEd policies, rules and orders.

One of the important issues related to education is the Responsible Parenthood and
Reproductive Health Act of 2012. Whereas, Having taken effect on January 17, 2013 in
large part due to the strong advocacy of stakeholders and the commitment of
Government, Republic Act No. 10354 or “ The Responsible Parenthood and
Reproductive health Act of 2012 has become the focal point for converge and
reproductive health service of multi – sectoral efforts toward the improvement of health
outcomes;

Partnership with local governments as lead implements of basic services is central to the
success of the act. Hence the active participation drafting and commitment to
implementation thereof by the different leagues. Delivery of responsible parenthood ,
and reproductive health services. These rules are hereby promulgated to describe the
procedures and guidelines for the implementation of the Act in order to facilitate
compliance therewith and to achieve the objectives thereof. The rules explain the
liberally construed to ensure the provision, delivery and access to reproductive health
care services and to promote, protect and fulfil women’s reproductive health and rights.
The state recognizes and guarantees the human rights of all persons including their right
to equality and non-discrimination of these rights, the right to sustainable human
development, the right to health which includes reproductive health, the right to
education and information. Through the Department of Education it promotes the right to
choose and make decisions for themselves in accordance with their religious
convictions, ethics, cultural beliefs and the demands of responsible parenthood. It
promotes also the duty to protect and strengthen the family as a basic autonomous
social institution and equally protect life. Responsible parenthood is integrated in the
curriculum of the school. It is given emphasis the learning areas about proper and
responsible parenting through meetings, symposium and seminars.
