SPECIFICATION NO. P-46:2008

FOR
132/lLSkV POWER 'l RANSFORMERS

0. FOREWORD

0.1 This specification has been prepared by the Design Department (NTDC).

0.2 This specification is intend•:d for the procurement of material and docs not
include all the necessary pmvis!ons of a contract.

0.3 The specification for power transformers was originally issued in I 968.
This 1-1as based on the i% 7 edition of IEC Publication 76. Subsequently
first, second and third amendments to this spccitication were issued on 26'h
November, 1968, 22"d November, 1969 and 22"" July, 1975 respectively.

At the time of preparation of tender documents for the STG project in

1979, the specification was extensively reviewed. revised and rewritten in
light of edition of IEC Publication 76 and its amendments and first revised
edition of the specification was issued in 1979.

As a result of experience gained in adjudicating the STG project tenders.

amendments No. I dated 301h L::·. :, 1981 and Amendment No. 2 dated 13'"
July, 1982 were issued. These consisted mostly in revision of accessories.
overvoltage o~eration, review ot capitalized cost of losses and revised
requirements for approval drawings and data. The second revised edition
was issued in I 982 incorporating the said amendments. The bushing
dimensions were also mndc mnndatory. The third revised edition was
issued in 1984 in which the rates of capitalization for transformer losses
were also reviewed and sr 'cificd in USS instead of l'ak Rs as given in the
earlier editions. Subscquc·.nly. "i Nos. amendments were issued to this
specification during the P'·"iod from 1986 to 2000. Accordingly. fourth
edition was issued which. besides editorial changes, consolidates earlier
amendments. In fourth edition, spcci!ication for 132i11.5kV. 31.5/40MVA
power transf01mers arc also being introduced for installation in big cities
where feeders arc heavily c,verloadcd but space constraints pose limit to
further extension/addition of anotl;cr transformer in the existing grid
stations. Provision of busl)ing type cmTent transformers has. also been
deleted with the exception of 132/34.5kV & 66/34.5kV transformers in
which the requirement has been retained.
On the basis of further field experience. it has been decided to revie\\' the
specification in light of the iatest revised edition of lEC Publication and its
amendments and S'h revised edition is issued.

0.4 This specification is subject to revision as and when required.
