Reading/Language Arts
In Language Arts our learning targets this week have included:
*review of year learning so far!
*Long vowel sound made by o_e, like hope, rope, and home.
* contractions: I’m, can’t, I’ll, etc.
*Sight word review
*blending sounds
* SPELLING is going well! We continue to practice in some way every day!
*recognizing proper nouns. This week our focus has been on days of the
week, months, and holidays!
*sequencing – Sequencing involves putting the story in the right order.
Students are getting better at remembering details but are still in need of
practice!!!
In writing this week we worked on a poem. Poems are short but hard! We
talk about choosing words carefully and on this poem have worked on
rhyming and the idea of verse! Our poems this week are about an animal, its
enemy , and how it protects itself. We are stretching our thinking for sure!
Just a note: We are getting ready for mid-year testing on Monday! We will
be tested on NWF (nonsense word fluency) and ORF (oral reading fluency).
Our fluency goal is 23 wpm! The year end goal is 47 wpm! I am so excited to
see the student’s progress!
