LET´S GO SHOPPING AT FIVE

STUDENTS: Teenagers of a public high school

LEVEL: Students of sixth grade

LENGTH: three hours a week

STUDENT’S PROFILE: Students with level A1 or lower

INTRODUCTION:

In this unit students will use time expressions and prices, vocabulary
to ask and tell the time. Also, vocabulary related to quantity,
prepositions in order to communicate in different contexts.

AIMS

COMMUNICATIVE:

• Students will be able to ask and tell the time.

• Students will be able to talk about prices.

LINGUISTIC:

• Use expressions like: What time is it? How much is it?

CULTURAL:

• Students will be able to express the time in British and American


English.

CONTENTS: Telling the time, ask about prices

PROCEDURES

1. warm up activity
The teacher will give instructions like:
If you listen to the number one you have to stand up, if you listen to the
number four you have to sit down, and so on. (see annex 1)

2.Time for fun


Students unscramble the letters to have words related to time:

4. Let’s talk about…


Students write the following questions, answer them and then share in pairs:

- What time do you get up? I get up at 6 o’clock

- What time do you come to school? ___________________________________

- What time do you go to bed? ________________________________________

Then they share information with the whole class by saying and using both American or

English ways

Ex: My partner gets up at ten past six

Or: My partner gets up at six ten


5. Listening activity
Listen and order the pictures according with the listening (see annex 2)

Teacher makes some questions in order to check the exercise and correct mistakes or
clarify if it is necessary.

6. Practice your English


The students will answer the next questions to the teacher:

- What time is your break?


- What of the following products are sold during the resting time? Write the price for each
one

Teacher asks the students to say the prices by following the next structure:

Teacher: How much a hamburger cost?

7.Writing activity
Then the teacher stick some prices on the board and students have to write
the cost in words

PRODUCTION ACTIVITY
Taking into account the previous exercise, the students create their
own schedule and write sentences using time expressions and prices.
