Assessment of Student Learning-Community Engagement

Community Engagement 2016-2017:

Direct measure: Student materials from one course were used for this assessment. Materials
included case study papers, literature reviews and logic model papers.CENG 701 Seminar in Community
Engagement (Objective 1 and 2)

Indirect measure: Results from student program survey were used for indirect measure

Recommendations/Actions:

Direct Measure: To address the writing gap, more writing instruction and APA style instruction
will be added in to the on boarding retreat as well as the course content

Community Engagement 2017-2018:

Direct measure: Student materials from three courses were used for this assessment. Materials
included policy paper final projects, social entrepreneurship final research paper and materials from
summit and dissertation materials(proposal, chapters 1,2, 3) from students in Dissertation
Seminar1.CENG 704 Public Policy, Advocacy & Social Change (Objective 62.CENG 706 Social
Entrepreneurship(Objective7)3.CENG 790Dissertation Seminar (Objective 8)

Recommendations/Actions:

Direct Measure: The Dissertation Seminar course will be revamped for2018. Individual
deadlines and deliverables will be set by the professor. In addition, the program is working to improve
the “lead-in” of required research classes to make the students better prepared for Dissertation Seminar
and other Dissertation coursework.

Community Engagement 2018-2019:

Direct measure: Student materials from three courses were used for this assessment. Materials
included final papers for each of the three classes. All final papers were group projects.CENG 702–

Ethics(Objective 4)CENG 704–Program Design, Implementation& Evaluation (Objective 5)

Indirect measure: Results from student program survey were used for indirect measure

Recommendations/Actions:

Direct Measure: In 2019 instructors were asked to eliminate group papers from the program
and instead of focus on each individual student’s research topic and writing skills. In addition, the
material in CENG 702 and 703 was often repetitive and in order to add more emphasis on research and
theory courses, CENG 702 was removed from the requirements in 2019.
