CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION AND RATIONALE OF THE STUDY

A lot of school are having a problem and most of them are the trash

that throwing in everywhere. And the trash that been throw away will stock

in the drainage that cause of flood. In this project that the researchers

made can help our school to avoid these trash and we call that trash

grinder. Using a trash grinder that the researchers make it can lessen the

space of the trash in Bestlink College of the Philippines and it can also

help the environment in Bestlink college of the Philippines. The trash

grinder can make the trash be useful again.

The purpose of our study is to help our environment and society. In

this study the researchers can assure that this project will chan ge our

environment. It can lessen the trash and can also recycle the grind plastic

and this study can avoid or lessen the floods because the plastics that

stocks the drainage will lessen the space and not cover it. After this study

the researchers can assure that the problem in the garbage of our

environment and community will be also lessen. In based of what we've

been experience one of the most problem in our school are the trash that

the researchers use and throw side by side, so the researchers chose this

topic. This topic could be seriously because in that topic, the researchers

can help our school, environment rather to lessen the trash. It could be

avoid the plastic that stock on the drainage and in that case, the

researchers can avoid the floods that also one of the problem in our

community. It is serious because the researchers want to showcase our

project that can help in our community.

This project would be helpful in our school, community, society and

also the environment. By developing effectiveness waste prevention, reuse

and recycle to enable the disposal of household organic wastes withy

advantages for the wastewater treatment processes because of an

increase in the carbon/nutrients ratio in the wastewater. Used to reduce

the size of material or bio mass through compaction to easily cut through

debris that typically cause problems such as word, glass, fish processing

waste, food waste and much more. The overall purpose of the study is to

lessen the space of the trash. In that way,it easily to dissolve the waste like

plastic. It also can help the environment because if the space of the trash

had lessened it could be avoiding the floods. This trash grinder can also

help the society just like the grind plastic could make it a pillow or a stuff

C R Mohmanty et al (2014)

: Studied the existing state of municipal solid waste management (MSWM)

inBhubaneswar city. Their aim was to identify the reasons which causes

obstructionsin achieving good management systemin the city. They found

that existing solid waste management system in the city is highly

inefficient. Only primary andsecondary collection of waste, transportation

and open dumping was carried by the local authority of Bhubaneswar.

Maryam Masood et al (2014): They studied current status of solid waste

management in Lahore, a metropolitancity of Pakistan. They carried out a

systematic quantitative and qualitative assessment of physical

components of presentsolid waste. By observing all steps collection of

waste from sources to disposal they developed material flow

diagram(MFD), which gives general idea about present waste

management system with all related input sand outputs.

Biubwa Ally et al (2014): Carried out study on current status of municipal

solid waste management (MSWM)system in Zanzibar municipality. They

carried out research on various aspects of MSWM such as waste

generation, itscollection and disposal, recycling. They identified the main

problems which becomes obstacles in improvement ofmunicipal solid

waste management system.

Studied that due to improper management of municipal solid waste

it becomes major environment issue in India. They stated that various

factors responsible for this issue that are rapid increase in

urbanization, industrialization and population ,the generation rate of

municipal solid waste in Indian cities and towns is also

increased.Management of municipal solid waste can cause adverse

environmental impacts, causes various diseases and other socio-

economic problem. In his paper researchers presented an overview of

current status of solid waste management in India which can help the

competent authorities which are responsible for municipal solid waste

management and researchers to prepare more effecient plans.

ensuring financial sustainability of the system continues to be a major

challenge in cities of developing countries. Bahir Dar in northwestern

Ethiopia outsourced municipal waste services to a private waste company

in 2008. While this institutional change has led to substantial improvement

in the cleanliness of the city, its financial sustainability remains unclear. Is

the private company able to generate sufficient revenues from their

activities to offset the costs and generate some profit. Sustainable SWM

2016 The waste management is a major issue in most of the developing

countries in the globe. India and China are two faster growing economies

who also have similar problems to handle huge amount of municipal solid

waste (MSW).The main hurdle is the awareness of the citizen and poor

institutional initiative all through the country, in general. There are a

number of good initiatives, of course. This study aims to explore the

present situation of the management of MSW and analyse the

sustainability of the initiatives to protect the environment and resource

utilisation leading to the least amount of landfill in India and China.

(Mohee et al.,2015 ), recycling is now seen as a sustainable approach to

SWM. Additionally, recycling has become a successful waste

management method to solve environmental pollution and increase in

human disease, which leads to increase collected recyclable waste and to

decrease waste inflow to landfills. However, lack of recyclable materials

markets, inconsistent waste separation campaigns and lack of public

participation do not allow recycling activities improvement (Potdar

etal.,2016)

The countries who face the worst scenarios of managing wastes are the

ones developing because their revenue to enforce is limited.

Consequently, waste management involves a lot of people who carry out

different duties to aid in sustaining hygienic and secured surroundings for

people so that there will be protection to the welfare of the populace and

environment. However, effective solid waste management in many

countries is still a test to the governments, particularly to unindustrialized

Linden et al., (as cited in Othchere et al, 2014) mentioned that there are

ten (10) common challenges to solid waste management in Asia. These

are: unsuitable treatment, insufficient administration, illegal disposal,

financial problems, shortage of human power, lack of political support, lack

of policy making, policy problems, rapid waste generation, no information

dissemination to the mass and inadequate land areas to become landfills.

number for rural areas is lessthan 50%. Most of the collected waste, about
80%-90%, is taken to landfills (Van2015). There are 91 landfills spread
throughout Vietnam but only 17 of them arewell-equipped and sanitary

Synthesis

The reviewed literature and studies will serve as a guide for the

researcher. In pursuing the study. All of the reviewed studies and

literature have similarities that pertain on the Effectiveness of the trash

grinder can lessen the space the trash in Bestlink College of the

Philippines. The related literature supports the researchers of the foreign

literature all about the solid waste for the surroundings to still the

cleanliness. The most frequently problem, inside and outside the

countries, are the trash scattered around. It cause of floods and it is bad

to health of the people. It can cause of being dirty around and not good

to the plants to have an oxygen. Solid waste can cause to the some

animals eat the little trash and it cause them to death because of the

trash scattered around. Many people can get a slow thinking and get a

bacteria to our body

Theoretical framework

Waste Management Theory is founded on the expectation that

waste management is to prevent waste causing harm to human health and

the environment. ... Therefore, new, dynamic definitions for waste and

waste management must be sought, which can explain why waste is

created and can offer an intrinsic solution for the problem .

Statistical Treatment of Data

The data that we were yielded by the questionnaire were tallied,

tabulated and subjected to statistical treatment using frequency
distribution, percentage, and percentage and mean in order to ensure
validity and reliability of the results.
Frequency distribution is table that displays the frequency of
various outcomes in a
sample. Each entry in the table contains the frequency or count of
the occurrences of values within a particular group or interval, and in this
way, the table summarizes the distribution of values in the sample.
Percentage distribution is the itemized summation of the
percentage of the frequency response for each question based on the
arithmetical percentage of the frequency distribution to the total number
of responses.
Formula:

the plastic trash that being stock on the drainage, not only in school but
also in our community. So we make this product just to help our school
and environment to less the flood that causes by plastic. Once the plastic
crash in to pieces it is easily to go with flow in drainage and not be stock.
And with help of this product we can make a lot of things using plastic with
the help of this.

ACTION PLAN

Crashing into small pieces the all plastic trash, so that they will not stock in

drainage that causes of floods.
