1. Stick the flashcards of noisy and carriage on the board .
2. Point to each flashcard, say the words a few times and ask students to repeat after teacher.

Lesson delivery
3. Have students open their books to page 78 and point out the words in the vocabulary section at the top of the
page.
4. Play the CD a few times and have students point to the words and repeat . ( Track 25 )
ACTIVITIES 5. Say the words again in random order and have students repeat and point.
6. Direct students’ attention to the pictures and ask them what differences they notice between these pictures and a
picture of a modern city .
7. Play the CD and have students to listen carefully . ( Track 26 )
8. Play the CD again and have students to follow along to their books .
9. Make sure students listen to the text and understand it .

6. Play the CD a second time and encourage students to shadow read . The third time play the CD pause after each
phrase for students to repeat .
7. Ask comprehension questions .

8. Direct students’ attention to the grammar box and read it out loud. Have students repeat.
9. Elicit that we use There was to say that a person , place or object existed in a specific place in the past.

11.Then , direct students’ attention to the pictures and ask them to name them .
12.Explain to students they will have to read activity 1 again in order to tick the pictures of the things that existed in New

16. Then , have some students act out the story for the class .

1. Revise the places in a town and the adjectives learnt in the lesson by playing a round of the game Don’t break the
chain . ( TB page 34 ) .

Lesson delivery

2. Direct students’ attention to the pictures in activity 1. Ask students to guess what the text is going to be about.
3. Play the CD and ask students to follow in their books .
4. Ask comprehension questions .
5. Choose a few students to read the text aloud.
6. Read the questions given in the box aloud and explain to students that their answers will help them to do their own
project in the workbook . ( page 64 )
ACTIVITIES 7. Direct students’ attention to the box with the Writing tip . Read the writing tip out loud and explain it to students .
Then read the examples .
8. Write the sentences and the intensifiers below on the board and have students copy them . Students have to write
the sentences and put the intensifiers in the correct place.
9. Have students compare their sentences in pairs , then check as a class .

Post-lesson
10. Have students form a line .
11. Explain to them that they have to form a sentence using the intensifiers very , really or so . Say It’s a really nice day
and encourage them to form their own sentences.
12. Make sure all the students form a sentence before they leave the classroom .
13. Ask students to do the workbook page 64 as homework .

4. Point to the first frame , second and fourth frame and ask students questions .
