Class: VI Subject: History Topic: The Aryan Civilization


Date: 20th Jan, 2019 Duration: 40 mins Teacher: Tayaba ALtaf

1. Objective(s): The student will be able to discuss the validity of using the term “Aryan Migration” as
opposed to “Aryan Invasion” to describe the arrival of the Aryans in India.
2. The student will be able to describe 2 major ways Aryan culture affected Indian civilization.
3. The student will be able to discuss 3 ways in which Aryan culture differed from the Indus River
Civilization.

Resources: Text Book, notebooks.

Islamic Values Integration: Fun Fact: Al-Khwarizmi's algebra was rhetorical, which means that the
equations were written out in full sentences.

Time
Starter Activity: The students will view a PowerPoint slide with the word “Invasion”

in large letters at the top. Using word association, they will write down the first three words 5 mins

they think of when the see the word “invasion”.

A variety of students will share their answers with the class.

Methodology
H.W Sharing: Ask students about the written assignment given to them last week on 5 mins
Indus valley civilization, discuss the answers quickly with them.

Procedure: The teacher will use PowerPoint slides with maps, diagrams and photographs to

give a short lecture about the Aryan Migration to India from Central Asia. Embedded within 15 mins

the lecture there will be a guided discussion about the difference between an invasion and

a migration with the students constructing the definitions and characteristics of each.

Then the class will come to a decision about whether the Aryans invaded India or migrated

to India.

Assessment Tasks: The students will create a “Who Am I?” chart in their permanent 10 mins

small groups. Each group will designate a “Clue-keeper”, a “Scribe”, and a “Speaker”.
Using the clues, each group will decide whether each clue relates to the Indus River

Civilization or the Aryans. Once they’ve agreed on where each clue needs to be placed,
the scribe will write the clues in their correct columns. The Clue-keeper will count and
collect the clues and return them to the teacher, and the speaker will take
charge of the “Who Am I?” chart.

Wrap-up: The class will play the “Who Am I?” Chart Challenge: the teacher will read 5 mins

one clue to each group; the speaker will tell the class to whom the clue refers;

if another group thinks the answer is incorrect, they may pose a challenge; the class

votes “Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down” as to whether the group answered correctly.

Play moves to the next group and so on until all the clues are used.

Aryan Civilization

Objective(s): Students will be able to learn the difference between the Aryan and Indus people, their
lifestyles and beliefs.

Resources: Text Book, lecture notes

Islamic Values Integration: They will learn to work with each other in friendly manner and appreciate each
other’s output.

Time

Starter Activity: Ask students to write down any questions they have on the topic they are 5 mins
studying. Put these in a box and pick some out, then ask the students to answer, to see if
they have any confusion regarding any of the civilization.

Methodology
H.W Sharing: Divide the class into small groups and encourage them to help their peers in 5mins
solving each others problem.

Procedure: A video clip will be shown to the students which will explain them how both
civilizations differ from one another in terms of manners, lifestyle, beliefs, culture.
During the lecture students will be asked to note down important points from the clip from 15 mins
which they will later perform their next task

Assessment Tasks: Ask the students to write down 5 differences between the Aryan and 10 mins
Indus valley civilization,

Wrap-up: The student who finishes the work first will then be selected to summarize about 5 mins
the religious beliefs of both civilization
Homework: If you had a chance to be a part of one Civilization, which one would you pick and why.
Support your answer with arguments.
