INTRODUCTION

Metco Blocks Mfg. Co. was established by Mr. Imtiyaz Patel (Founder), a dynamic professional
with more than two decades of experiences in the domain. Under his guidance, our company is
thriving and catering to customers all over the country from our base in Mumbai, Maharashtra,
India. Resources Our company has established a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility equipped
with Columbia Pakona Machine (USA) Model SPM20 for automatic PLC based plant operations.
The plant enables :

Hydraulic compaction along with supersonic vibration of blend of cement that makes a high
strength paver up to M50 grade with high abrasion resistance

High grade steel molds ensure dimensional integrity

Besides the plant, we have well-endowed laboratory for checking of each batchs quality.
Certificates Over the years, our company has been awarded with several certificates for our
quality management systems. The certifications are mentioned as follows :

CIDCO Certification

ICRA Certification

growth in population has led to dense concrete jungles accompanied with dark interiors, and
leading to higher energy consumption within buildings through artificial lighting.Development of
new and innovative materials to meet the ever increasing demand of construction industry
without compromising sustainability has always been a challenge for civil or construction
engineers. This paper presents the results of experimental studies carried to investigate light
transmitting potential of masonry blocks embedded with plastic optical fibres. The self-cleansing
potential of TiO2 to enhance the longevity of construction is also investigated. Keywords: Light

development and growth indicates the progress of the nation and this is the key interest
of the major entrepreneurs. In a time, when large-scale city and town planning is
occurring throughout the country, relevance of energy efficient structures that are eco-friendly
is a business that runs in several billions of rupees. The projected estimate for building
sector in India is an increase of 80 billion square fts in next 17 years. This huge demand
in construction industry necessitates the development of new and innovative materials
which are energy efficient, cost effective and sustainable. According to (IGBC) Indian Green
Building Council, 50% day lighting is a mandatory requirement in a green building. Engineers all
over the world are experimenting on different construction materials which are energy efficient
and cost effective. At present, green structures focus greatly on saving energy with promising
technology for field applications in civil infrastructure.

Due to economic development and space utilization requirements, high rise buildings and
skyscrapers are mostly built downtown in metropolitan areas around the world, especially those
countries with great populations. Those buildings are isolated biosphere only based on man-
made lights to maintain people’s optical activities. For example, China consumes 25% of
global indoor thermal systems. However, in the area of illumination fields, there is very
little research offering relevant solutions. In Ref. [1] experimental studies using plastic optical
fiber (POF) were carried out in masonry blocks and its light transmitting and mechanical
properties were investigated. He stated that POF-based masonry blocks use sunlight for
illumination, which will provide some relief in the case of daytime power usage for
skyscrapers. Ref. [2] presented an approach to measure, characterize and simulate photometric
performances of light transmission efficiency of an innovative transparent concrete panel for
façades. In the first part of the paper integrating sphere measurements were collected to
derive spectral optical properties of the panel. The optical properties of a specimen were
measured for incidence angles between normal and 60° and the spectral results were reported.
The data collected during the measures were used to create and validate a simplified
Radiance model of the panel and to optimize simulation parameters to estimate properly the
total internal reflections effects thought the PMMA resin insertions. Ref. [3] discussed the
development of Smart transparent concrete based on its excellent properties of transparent and
smart sensing
