UNIT-I

1. a) Describe the operations functions of CAD input and output devices. 5M

b) Describe about the product life cycle integrated with CAD/CAM. 5M

2. a) Illustrate the applications of computers for design process. 5M

b) What is the importance of graphic standards in CAD? Explain briefly any two 5M
of them.
UNIT - II
3. a) Explain about the 2D wire frame modelling with highlighting the applications, 4M
merits & de-merits.
b) Describe the construction methodology of the ‘Hermite Cubic Spline’ using 6M
parametric equations.
OR

4. a) Illuminate any two wireframe entities with neat sketches. 4M

b) What is a synthetic cure? Develop the parametric equation for the ‘B-spline’ 6M
curve and highlight its applications.
UNIT - III

5. a) Generate the parametric equation for the ‘tabulated cylinder’ surface and 5M
discuss its applications.
b) How the ‘segmentation’ process is applied for surface manipulation? 5M

7. a) Develop the parametric representation of the ‘Bezier surface’ and highlight 6M
the advantages over the other synthetic surfaces.
b) Describe about the construction of the ‘Coons surface’ using the parametric 4M
equations.

8. a) Describe the importance of the ‘Blending surface’ in surface modelling. 4M

b) Develop the parametric representation of the ‘B-spline surface’ and discuss 6M


its applications.
UNIT – V
9. a) Demonstrate the Constructive Solid Geometry (CSG) method applied in solid 5M
modelling.
b) Explore the importance of the ‘Homogeneous’ and ‘concatenation’ 5M
transformations related to the CAD.

10. a) A triangle ABC having vertices A(2,0,0), B(3,2,0), C(2,4,0) is applied the 6M
following successive transformations.
i. Rotation about z-axis at an angle of 300 in the clockwise direction.
ii. Translation in (x,y,z) directions as (2,3,2) units respectively.
Find the new co-ordinates of the vertices A, B, and C.
b) Discuss about any three solid entities used in solid modelling process. 5M

UNIT – VI
11. a) Explore the importance of the ‘mass property calculations’ related to the 5M
CAD.
b) Generate the ‘IGES’ format for data exchange process. 5M

12. a) What is the importance of the Data exchange? Explore the methodology in 5M
the ‘STEP’ format for exchange of data.
b) Develop the methodology for ‘mechanical assembly’ process related to the 5M
