SCOPE OF SUPPLY

 General construction of switchboards/panels

i. The MSB and panels should be

 bulkhead mounted type
 dead front;
 drip proof,
 Totally enclosed
 Cable entry from bottom
 Cubical type construction (3 cubicles) fabricated from angles/formed channels of mild
steel to the required profile by welding to form rigid structure suitable for direct mounting
ship bulkhead.
 Front side insulated hand rails
ii. The doors and covers should be fabricated from 14SWG sheet steel.
iii. The complete switchboard is to be designed from rigid structure meeting best marine standards
iv. The front doors incorporating indicating and control equipments should be of hinged type
fastened by adequate number of locks operated by keys.
v. All the hinged front doors should be provided by
 Door stoppers to retain it open position as per good marine practice.
 Neoprene rubber gasket all round to make it dust and vermin proof.
vi. Suitable number of ventilation louvers has to be provided for dissipation of heat generated inside
the switchboards.
vii. At front end of the switchboard should be fitted GRP handles vertically
 Ambient Condition:

The minimum climatic condition for Arabian Gulf Sea is to be considered in the design for the operation of
the equipments.
The ambient conditions for guidance should be considered as:
 Ambient Temp
0
: 50 C
 Relative humidity : 90%
 Sea water temp : 37 C
0

 Components

All components and equipments employed in manufacturer of the switchboards should be suitable for
marine installation and are either of classification society approved component of known quality or
components selected during the design of the switchboards to customers’ specification.

1. 380V main switchboard( 56.0kVA.3Ph+N,50Hz, )

The switchboard should be deigned to synchronize DG-1 and DG-2 for a short time till load
transferring is done. (auto load sharing is required)

a) DG circuit breakers should have under voltage trip, over current trip & short circuit trip and
complied with

 approved rating,
 plug in type with and static protection
 Classification society make and type.

b) Miniature Circuit Breakers :

Hand operated miniature circuit breakers with all the protection for outgoing feeders are to be
used

c) Fuses:
All fuses chosen are to be approved make, range and type meeting classification society
standings and should be rated for required current and prospective fault current

d) Instruments
o Instruments used in the switchboard should be flush mounting, switchboard pattern,
confirming to relevant standards and of size 96 x 96mm. Instrument should be black cases
white instrument faces black marking.
o Red/black heavy line should be added to signify nominal/maximum rating for volt meter,
ammeter, should be at least 130% of rated full load
o Maximum load should be mark on ammeter in red

e) Bus bars
o The bus bars should be manufactured from rectangular cross section, hard drawn, high
conductivity, electrolytic grade copper adequately rated for the thermal, mechanical and
electromagnetic condition likely to be experienced on board.
o All copper bus bar within the switchboard should be electro tinned and sleeved phase
identification color.
o All copper work should be supported by insulated mounts and clamps of non- hygroscopic
material.
o MSB manufacturer has to be provided required short circuit calculation and breakers
discriminative(coordination) analysis
o After the correct coordination analysis done correct MCCBs have to be used for the
protection.
f) Wiring
o All wiring should be carried out by using flexible copper conductor panel wiring FLRS type
cable of 1000V grade.
o Wiring should run through approved trunk or alternatively laced to form neat looms and
secured prevent dislocation damage under the specified ship operating conditions.
o Crimping type closed eye connection has to be used wherever wiring is to be connected to
their respective equipments.
o All wiring should be marked at both ends with indelible identification ferrules. All control cable
cables should be terminated onto terminals for ease of connection to the external cables.

g) Main switchboard should be completed in all respect for intended operational requirement with

 Certification:

 BV Certificate of Inspection for main switchboard.

 Manufacturer’s work Certificate
 All gauges used in panels should have calibration certificates.
 BV Type Approval Certificates for all enclosures, & switch gears used in panels.
 Factory Acceptance Test will be witnessed by owner representative
