1. FLOURESCENT BY AGAPITO FLORES

Agapito Flores is the reason why the world becomes brighter. A Filipino Inventor who is
known for his funnel of the Fluorescent light tube invention – one of the most commonly used
lighting device in the world.

Purpose

Fluorescent lamps give light from a large glowing surface rather than a small intense source.
These lamps are commonly used in situations which call for general illumination at an even level
such as offices, classrooms, retail stores, hallways, and cafeterias.

How does it affect the society?

Before the invention of fluorescent, people used candles and gas lanterns for light when it was
dark. Although people have this form of light, it was still dim so they put candles everywhere.
Because there are many candles, houses often burn down. It was much dangerous but because
of fluorescent light or lamp, people now had light at all times of the day. Doing things are much
easier because of it.

2. VIDEOPHONE BY GREGORIO ZARA

Gregorio Zara was born in Lipa City Philippines, invented the videophone in 1955 and
referred to as a Photo phone separator signal. Gregorio Zara invented 30 patented products
including The Compass in 1929, Wooden Microscope, Vapor Chamber and Robot that talked,
walked and responded to a given command.

Purpose
 A device that makes it possible for two people to see each other on a television while talking
on the telephone

How does it affect the society?

In the past, businesses had to conduct meetings in person, or not meet at all. It caused
difficulties for many company. This problem was solved by the invention of videophone wherein
people can communicate clearly in school, businesses, and homes without the need to meet in
person. it allowed deaf and hard hearing people to have the ability to communicate over the
phone. People can now communicate from different parts of the world.

3. ERYTHROMYCIN BY ABELARDO AGUILAR

Aguilar discovered the antibiotic from the Aspergillus species of fungi in 1949 and sent
samples to Indiana-based pharmaceutical firm Eli Lilly Co. The drug firm allegedly registered
the propriety name Iloson for the antibiotic in honor of Iloilo province where Aguilar discovered
it. Erythromycin, the generic name of Iloson, was reportedly the first successful macrolide
antibiotic introduced in the US.

Purpose

Erythromycin is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. It may also be used to prevent
certain bacterial infections. Erythromycin is known as a macrolide antibiotic. It works by stopping the
growth of bacteria.
 This antibiotic treats or prevents only bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (such
as common cold, flu). Using any antibiotic when it is not needed can cause it to not work for future
infections.

How does it affect the society?

It helps the people to cure some of the disease that they have. If before, it is hard to find a solution
to some of health problems but when it was invented it helped a lot of people in their health problems.

4 .SINGLE-CHIPS GRAPHICAL USER INTERFACE ACCELERATOR BY DIOSDADO

BANATAO

– introduced the first single-chip graphical user interface accelerator that made computers work
a lot faster and for helping develop the Ethernet controller chip that made the Internet possible.
In 1989, he pioneered the local bus concept for personal computers and in the following year
developed the First Windows accelerator chip. Intel is now using the chips and technologies
developed by Banatao. He now runs his own semiconductor company, Mostron, and Chips &
Technology, which is based in California’s Silicon Valley.

Purpose

This invention has allowed computer users to use graphics for commands and not the usual
typed commands in older computers. It has allowed data processing to be a little faster using
very little space (small chips instead of large boards).

How does it affect the society?

Back in the day, companies were less about reducing the size of our gadget and more about
implementing the basics: processing data and presenting it to the user in an appreciable form. It
allows the integration of all the computer’s essential processing features into a small package.
 5. LUNA ROVER BY EDWARDO SAN JUAN

He is the inventor of the Moon Buggy or the Lunar Rover. This Moon buggy was the car
used by Neil Armstrong and other astronauts when they first explored the moon in 1969.

Purpose

Purpose of the lunar rovers was to transport the astronauts, saving their energy and
oxygen supplies for collecting rock samples to bring back to Earth.

How does it affect the society?

It helps the astronauts to easily get their work done in space. To help them see what’s in
the planet they’re experimenting or observing.
