About Me

I was born and raised in Minnesota. I graduated from the

University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management
in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Business
Communications.

After graduation I entered the corporate world and

worked as a Merchandiser for Supervalu. Then in 2010 I
married my dream guy (who happened to be a helicopter
pilot in the Navy) and we moved to California!

In 2011 I had my son and I became a stay at home Mom. I

started doing contracting work from home on the side
and my social media marketing business grew and grew!

Since I have had so much success with it, I wanted to

share my secrets! And let you know that you too can make
a fantastic income working from home!

Intro
Have you ever longed for a way to grab more traffic and make
more sales? Obviously, the answer is yes! The Internet is a
constantly changing universe and with social networking
becoming the top way to generate traffic, it’s important to
harness it to your advantage.

Pinterest is a massive traffic powerhouse and will be one of

the most important tools you will ever use.

In fact, many webmasters report that Pinterest is creating

more traffic for their websites than YouTube, LinkedIn, and
Google+… combined!

If you haven’t jumped on the Pinterest bandwagon, it’s not too

late. You can start “pinning” and make your website Pinterest
friendly with a few simple steps.

I created this book to help you master Pinterest and leverage

it to your advantage. You can easily generate large amounts of
high-quality traffic with minimal effort on your part.

So if you are ready to take your website to the next level, sit
back, grab some coffee(or wine) and let’s get started!

Chapter 1
How to start a blog in 15 min or less
Let’s start with blogging. Blogging is a fantastic way to
reach millions of people, all from the comfort and
convenience of your own home! In this Chapter we
will go over the basics of starting a blog/website and
getting it up and running, no technical skills needed!

However, if you really want an in-depth look at

starting your blog and all the tips and tricks that go
with it, I strongly recommend you get the book Blog
by Number, By: Suzi Whitford This book breaks down
every aspect of blogging. You can start out literally
knowing nothing and this book will explain it all! I have
personally used it and still reference it to this day!
Click the image below to check out Suzi’s book!

First things first, choose a domain name and get web
hosting. A domain name is a term used when referring
to your website's address. For example Gmail's domain
name is Gmail.com. Make sense? A host is what you
need to power your website so that you are able to be
seen on the internet. If you don’t have a host, then no
one can see any of your valuable content!
For hosting, I recommend
TIP
When choosing a
using SiteGround. They
have hosting starting as
domain name think of
low as $3.95 a month!
something that

business or what you
want to blog about.

When it comes to hosting your website you don’t

necessarily want to go with the cheapest option.
Cheaper services offer poor quality loading time, that
will cost you visitors and we don’t want that!
SitGround has been amazing, they have great
customer service and I have had zero problems! I
highly recommend them!

When signing up through SiteGround you can type in

the domain name you want and if it’s not available
they will give you other options to choose from!

Install Wordpress
Now that you are all signed up it’s time to install
Wordpress. Wordpress is very simple blogging
software that allows you to make your site look any
way you want it to, with click and types and drag
and drops.

Let me clear something up super quick! You don’t have

to use this site to “blog” per say. It does have that
option and a lot of people use it for that reason alone.
However, a lot of people also use it for their personal
business website. To showcase products they make
etc.

Even if you don’t plan to blog, you will be able to use

this awesome new site to show the world wide web all
you have to offer! Exciting right?

You did it!
And there you have it! Great work on setting up your
new site! Again if you are super new to Wordpress and
not super tech savvy, get the book I mentioned above.
You won’t regret it!

Fun Fact:
Did you know
when you sign up with
SiteGround

for life?
Pretty cool right?!

Confirming Your Website
Let’s confirm your website, so it looks like this on
your homepage.  By confirming your website on
Pinterest you are able to look at the pins that have
come directly from your website, impressions,
re-pins, and how many people actually clicked
through the actual post to your site.

And with this information you can see what pins your
followers are responding to.

You must have set up your Pinterest business account

to get your website confirmed.

See how my site is bolded, that is because it has been

confirmed through Pinterest.

LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja  16

First, Log into your account
Then, Go to the “Analytics” tab, which is located on
the top left corner of your home feed. Then click on
“website”

Once here, click “confirm website”

button to the right.
Now open a new tab
In your new tab, log into the back end of your website.
This example is with a Wordpress site.

LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja   17

1st: Scroll down and click on “SEO”
2nd: You will click on “social”
3rd: You will click on the tab labeled “Pinterest”
4th: Then you will copy the meta tag that Pinterest gave
you, and you will paste it where it says “Pinterest

Confirmation” Then click SAVE.

Go back to the tab with your Pinterest opened and
press the “finish” button! Give this process 24-48 hours
to do its thing and then check back to make sure your
website is verified!

LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja  18

Enabling Rich Pins
What are rich pins? Rich Pins are pins that have extra
information, like your website, below your pin image.
They help get your more traffic and make you look
super professional! As you can see below, the pin on
the right does not have rich pins enabled and the pin
on the left does. It stands out more with bold writing
and as you can see has many more re-pins than the
pin on the right.

The great thing about enabling rich pins is that you

only have to do it once.

LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja  19

Step 1: If you don’t have the Yoast SEO plugin installed,
do that now. The Yoast SEO plugin will automatically
enable meta tags for you, which is what Pinterest
requires.

Step 2:  Once you’ve installed and activated Yoast SEO,

click on the Yoast SEO icon on your WordPress
dashboard and then click on the “features” tab.

Step 3:  Make sure that “advanced settings pages” is

set to “enabled”

Step 4: Go to Pinterest’s Rich Pin Validator and pick

any URL from your blog (preferably a blog post), copy
and paste it into the enter a valid URL box and click
on validate.

Step 5: A message will appear saying, “Your Pin’s

have been validated! Apply to enable your Rich Pins“.
Click on apply now.

Step 6: You should receive a confirmation email from

Pinterest approving your application. It may take up
to five days for the confirmation email to be sent. But
normally comes within a day. I think it only took
mine a few hours.

And there you have it! Rich Pins enabled! Great work!

Chapter 3
All About Branding
Branding is SO SO important when it comes to styling
your blog/website. You want your blog/website to give
off a specific image and vibe that attracts your target
audience. And while that does entail choosing the perfect
color palette and logo it is much more than that. It’s
designing your blog/website to feed and fulfill what your
target audience wants, what they crave. This includes
choosing colors, fonts and images that your specific
audience is attracted to.

So when you get down to it, it is VERY important to know

who your target audience is, who are you trying to
capture? Without knowing that it will be hard to create
your brand.

If you are just starting out and you really don’t know who
your target audience is ask yourself these questions:

Who is your blog/website for?

What age group are they in?
Are you targeting Males or Females?
What are their hobbies?
What are their interests?
What do they do for a living?

download your free branding worksheet!

Now that you have an idea of what you want your

brand to be, below are some ideas to help your brand
stand out!

Who are you?

This is a VERY important step! I realize it’s kind of
obvious, but when all's said and done your brand is
YOU!

Write down your brand's mission statement in a few

sentences, include the point/purpose of your
business and what you have to offer. Include why you
are doing what you are doing and what you hope to
accomplish. Why is YOUR brand different than
others?
TIP:
Join Facebook groups, it’s a really good
way to gain some insight on your
business and connect with other
businesses. Facebook groups are a
REALLY good way to make
connections, collaborations and
possible career opportunities.
However, just simply “liking” posts isn’t
going to do it. Ask questions, answer
questions others have asked if you
happen to have some good advice.

LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja  22

Write a KILLER about me
TIP: section.

Think of your Because again, your brand is

about me about you!
section almost
like an online Write down who you are, how
resume. Be you got to this point, why do
sure to let you do what you do? What are
your readers YOUR passions and interests?
know why Let it all out! A good about me
YOU are the would ideally be 2-3 short
person for the paragraphs. Not too long, but
job. just enough you let your
readers connect with you.

Choose 3-5 words that describe you and your brand.

Almost like a short slogan. Words that you can
incorporate throughout your brand when picking
colors, images and fonts. If you are stuck ask some of
your friends to choose 3-5 words that describe you
who are as a person.

TIP:
Be sure to stick to your brand guidelines. Take some time
to create a short guideline for your brand. Standing out
online isn’t just about what you create, it’s about how you
present it as well. So having a guideline to reference with
your colors, fonts etc. will help!

LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja  23

Here is an example of my tag line, I use it
on my website and my Pinterest page.

See how I take that same tagline and use it

all over my social media accounts, it helps
keep your brand consistent.

LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja  24

Create a vision/mood board

What is that exactly? It is a compilation of images

and fonts, colors etc. that you like. Below is a
picture of my vision board. Try and have
images/colors/fonts that work well together and
get rid of anything that doesn’t go well with the
majority of your board. Try and stick to 25 images
or less. Once you have yours done, you can take
from that to help create the perfect theme for your
brand.

Here is my vision board. As you can see it’s what I

based my brand off of. Light colors and shabby chic.

TIP:
You can use Pinterest to create your
vision/mood board. Make it secret so that
only you can see the content.

LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja  25

Select your colors, fonts, images

Choose 3-4 colors and fonts to use throughout your

blog/website, if you do more than that things will look
messy. CONSISTENCY is key! Make sure to add these
to your brand guidelines so they are easy to reference.

Font squirrel is a great resource for downloading free

fonts, and Design Seeds has some pretty fantastic
color pallets.
TIP:
Be sure to make sure you colors work well together and
aren’t too bright. Having super bright colors such as neon’s
is almost like having too much wording, it deters people
from wanting to look any further.
As you can see I stick to two main fonts. One I call my
“fancy font” and that is the one of the top. The other font, is
the one I Use 90% of the time.

LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja  26

Logo time!

Now that you have your colors and fonts figured

out you can create the perfect logo! Canva is a
great FREE program you can use!

TIP:
Or if you want to go big or go home you can hire a graphic
designer. Show them your vision board and you can work
together to create the perfect logo.
I used Autumn Lane Paperie for my logo, she has hundreds
of pre-made logos starting at only $15! SUPER affordable!

LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja  27

What is your voice going to be?

How are you going to talk to your readers or the

people you are selling your product to? Are you going
to be casual, formal, chipper? Do you want it to be
funny or more on the serious side?

I talk to my readers the way I talk to my friends on a

daily basis. I want to come off friendly and inviting!
(Which I am!) So I try and work that into my writing.

Create your brand items

Now that we have your band down pat it’s time to
create items like:
Business Cards
Product packaging
Stationary
Website theme

And boom! You just created your brand! GREAT

WORK!

Chapter 4
Incorporating Your Brand into
Your Social Media Accounts
Let’s start with Pinterest!

99% of the time before someone follows you on

Pinterest they are going to briefly look over your page.
So the way your profile picture, bio and boards look
will either make them want to follow you or not.
Having your page look professional is not only key for
gathering followers, but gathering the right followers.

Here you will learn how to create a professional

Pinterest Page! Everything you will need to get you
started towards Pinterest success!

Have a profile picture that reflects you! I am still in

the process of getting professional pictures taken for
my blog, but having a profile picture with a picture of
you is what your followers want to see. They don’t
want to see a logo or a random image, which will drive
them away. For all they know you could be a fake
profile who wants to spam them! So even if you don’t
have a professional picture of yourself, a current
photo will do!
LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja  29
Write a short but sweet bio. In a couple sentences
describe what you do. Tip: I use the same tag line that I
have on my website. It not only tells my followers what
I do but it’s consistent with my brand.

Here is my Pinterest bio, “Helping Moms to find their

perfect niche and turn it into a money making business!”
It’s short and lets my followers know exactly what I do!
(You can see mine in the picture above.)

LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja   30

Obviously you want to include the name of your
company in your title but also include key search
words that describe what you do. Why do you want to
use keywords? Pinterest is a search engine that works
just like Google, Yahoo or bing! However Pinterest is
all visual which I think makes it even better!

So because of this you have to use SEO strategies

when it comes to your account and your pins. When
you use the right keywords in the right places your
followers will grow and grow and grow! In mine I used
the words: Blogger, Mompreneur and Time
Management, all keywords that pertain to what I do.

LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja   31

The very first board on your page should be solely
dedicated to your business. This board will also show
up at the very top of your page. This way your
followers will see what you do when they first click on
your page.

To edit all the information above click on your profile

picture on the top right corner and this drop down box
will appear. Then you will click on “settings”

LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja   32

Here you will click on “profile” and you can change
your profile picture, type your bio, and edit any other
business information!

Now that you have done all this you are going to want
to focus on board covers! What is a board cover?
Board covers easily show your followers what each of
your Pinterest boards is about. Here is an example of
my board covers.

LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja   33

It’s pretty easy to see what each of my boards are
about. This also helps me when I am quickly wanting
to pin something! It helps make your page look clean
and organized, which will help you get more
followers!

To get over 100 custom board covers click the image

below!

You can use Canva or Picmonkey to create your own

covers!
Give me

Covers!
Now onto Facebook!
Facebook is pretty simple, my profile picture is my
logo, and my cover image goes along with my brand’s
style and colors. Try and keep your Facebook page
consistent with your brand.

When it comes to your other social media accounts,

keep your brand guidelines handy and try to keep
everything consistent. This way you keep everything
looking professional!
LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja   34
Chapter 5
Creating the Perfect Pin
What is a perfect pin? Well, the perfect pin is going to
be vertical, and long. Why? Because it helps them stand
out and be noticed! The perfect pin, won’t be too busy
or too wordy. If they are, they tend to be hard to read
and people will scroll right by them.

Let’s learn about making the perfect pin, a pin that will
be sure to be re-pinned over and over and over!
First I am going to give you an example of a not so
perfect pinable image. One of my own! YIKES! See
when I started out I had ZERO clue how to work
Pinterest so I have learned from my mistakes! Mistakes
that you won’t make!

The two programs I use for creating my Pinterest

images are PicMonkey and Canva. Both FREE!

LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja   35

Okay so as cute as I “thought” this pin was at the time,
it’s ALL WRONG! To start its square, it definitely won’t
catch anyone’s eye on a feed full of long vertical pins.
(I think this pin only got two re-pins, so sad)

The wording at the bottom doesn't include key words

or phrases. (I’ll go over that in a min)

Now let’s look at a perfect pin!

This is one of my pins that has been getting me a TON

of traffic and a TON of new subscribers. It’s so long I
had to take two screen shots of it!

LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja   36

The first thing you
notice about this pin
is how long it is! It
definitely stands out!
Two, the wording at
the top is clear and
easy to read. Plus it’s
short and sweet! And
lastly, the description
is FULL of key words!
Here is another
picture of the pin so
you can get an idea of
how long it is!

One of the things that goes into making the perfect

pin is using the right key words in the description.
Since Pinterest is one big search engine, you are more
likely to pop up on a feed if you are using the right key
words in your description.

LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja   37

The key words in this description are: business plan,
goals, income, expenses, and social media. So if
someone is searching: “business plan” Pinterest is
more likely to shoot my pin to their home feed
because I have those key words in my pin
description.

Key words also work the same when it comes to your

board covers. Do you ever see suggestions for boards
to follow in your feed? It’s because those boards have
key words that pertain to things you have been
searching for on Pinterest.

See how my board covers are very basic when it comes

to wording? But they have key words and phrases
someone would be searching for. Like: Work from
home, grow your email list, make money blogging. By
having these key words for my board covers, my
boards are more likely to come up when someone
searches something with those key words.
It’s pretty simple and once you get Pinterest figured
out, your numbers will grow and grow and grow!
So let’s keep learning!
LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja   38
Chapter 6
Using Pinterest Group Boards to Increase
Your Traffic
Now that we have our Pinterest page on point and we have
learned how to create the perfect pin using key words,
let’s learn how to utilize Pinterest group boards to get our
pins out there and increase your blogs traffic!

What are Pinterest Group boards? They are boards that

multiple people can pin to and collaborate on. Group
boards are HUGE when it comes to getting your content
out there. When you create a pin, you can pin it to each
board. And that way more and more people will see it!
Some of these boards have 14,000+ followers! Think about
that many people seeing your pin!
Don’t know how to
pin to group boards?
It’s super easy!

First you are going to

upload your pin or go
to the pin you created
and click on it. It
should look like this.
Then you are going to
click the red “save”
button.

LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja   39

Once you click save this box will appear and on the
right hand side will be all your personal boards and all
your group boards. How do you know it’s a group
board? There will be a little icon to the right of the
board that has two little people next to it.

Simply click on whichever board you would like to pin

your pin to!

TIP: The first thing I do when I create and upload

a pin to Pinterest is go through and pin that pin
to every single group board I am a part of. As
long as it pertains to blogging or social media.
Some group boards also let you pin any topic.

LoveFamilyHealth.com - Become a Pinterest Ninja   40

How do you find group boards and how do you join
them? Well I can help you with both of those things!
Below is a list of 30 Pinterest Group Boards, with a
link for each specific board and who to email to get
an invite.

Each group board will have specific rules, most of

them require you to follow the original creator.
Other rules include: only pinning a certain amount of
pins each day or that they all must be vertical. Also
when you pin a pin of yours, re-pin another person’s
pin as well! Help each other out! Some boards let you
pin any pin on any topic. Some only let you pin
specific pins. So be sure to read and follow all the
rules!

Also If you scroll down there is a template you can use

when emailing and asking for an invite!

Click on each box below, and it will bring you to the

board. Then you can follow it before you send an
email asking for an invite!

You can right click and then click on "open

link in new tab" to make it easier!

Chapter 7
Using Facebook Groups to Grow Your
Following
We just learned how to use Pinterest Group boards to
increase your following and get your content out there.
Now we are going to learn how to do it with Facebook!

Facebook Groups. They are great for getting your

content out there, interacting with other bloggers,
getting tips and advice and even finding others to
collaborate with. These groups also come with rules.
You have to make sure to follow them, otherwise you
will get kicked out fast!

In order to keep everything organized, so that you

make sure you are getting the most out of each and
every group; you can download my printable Social
Media Checklist. I print this out each week and it helps
me stay organized and helps me remember what
threads I have participated in, this way I can be sure to
follow the rules!

Media Checklist

For example:

This thread is for getting re-pins. And I realize your

initial thought is probably, “5 re-pins? That’s not a
lot.” But what if each of those people who re-pinned
your pin, had 1,000 followers? That’s 5,000 people
who can see YOUR pin!

Now how do you find these awesome Facebook
Groups? Well I have compiled a list of them just for
you! 29 to be exact! Simply click on the name and you
will be directed to the page.  if you right click it will
open up the link in a new tab) Then click join! Some
of them require you to answer one or two questions
before you are approved. Again follow the rules and
these groups will help you grow, grow, grow!

Chapter 8
How to use Pinterest to get email
subscribers
Having a strong email list is SO important if you
want to make money with your blog or website. They
say you can earn (on the low end) $1 per subscriber
per month. So if you have a list of 100 people, you
have to potential to make $100 a month!

However, I am going to show you how to use

Pinterest to rapidly grow your email list! I know
these tactics work because I have used them on
numerous clients!

Let’s start with this, let’s say you go to a website to

check out an article you found online. When you get
to the site and the page opens up there is a pop up
asking you to join their email list. 99.9% of the time
you are going to X out of it. Why? Well there was no
incentive and why do you need more junk mail?

So the question stands, how the heck do you get

email subscribers? Incentives. What is an incentive?
It’s something you offer for free or at a discount in
order to collect someone’s information.

Think about it, you are more likely to subscribe to an
email list if you are getting a discount on a product
you want or getting something for free that will
benefit you.

Here is an example of one of my incentives that has

given me a ton of new subscribers.

Why is this incentive working so well? Because it’s
what my readers want! So think about your target
audience. What can you give them, which will benefit
them? What do they want to see from you? Are you a
food blogger? Maybe offer 10 free recipes. Or maybe
you’re a health coach, offer a free 7 day meal plan.
Make sense?

Then the key is creating an attention grabbing image

that you can pin all over the place! Remember those
Pinterest Groups and Facebook Groups that you
joined? Use them to get your content out there!
Participate in re-pin threads and pin, you pin to every
group board you are a part of. That give your pin the
potential to be seen by thousands upon thousands of
people.

What is the best way to do this? Convert kit. It has

been life changing for me and it is so stinking simple
to use! You can sign up by clicking on the image below
