Xiaomi Corporation is a Chinese electronics company established in 2010 by Lei Jun with
headquarters in Beijing. Xiaomi manufactures and invests in smartphones, mobile apps,
laptops, bags, trimmers, earphones, MI TV, shoes, fitness bands, and many more. Ranked
468th, Xiaomi is the youngest company on Fortune Global 500 List for 2019.
Xiaomi released their first smartphone in August 2011 and quickly gained market share in
China to become the largest smartphone company in the country in 2014. Xiaomi was the
fourth largest smartphone manufacturer in the world at the start of the second quarter of
2018, leading in both China's largest market and India's second-largest market. Xiaomi later
developed a wider range of consumer electronics including a mobile platform for the smart
home (IoT).
Xiaomi has a workforce of 15,000 in China, India, Malaysia, Singapore and is spreading to
other countries including Australia, the Philippines and South Africa. Lei Jun, the founder and
CEO, has an estimated net worth of US$ 12.5 billion according to Forbes magazine. Since
raising US$ 1.1 billion from investors, Xiaomi is the fourth most successful technology firm in
the world, making Xiaomi's worth more than US$ 46 billion.
