DQ3-1

I think would depend on what type of research or information I’m trying to look up or find there are certain
places on the Internet where anyone can change the content, therefore the information I get from that site
may not be as accurate as the original post was. So, with that being said I think I would trust the Internet
more than television or radio, but I feel that even with all the information at our fingertips on the Internet
we still need to be diligent in our research.

DQ3-2

A behaviorist is a person that examines human communication skills simply through observable behavior.

Where a humanist studies a person’s attempt to interpret and understand the world around them.

DQ3-3

The term meaning is referring to the idea that symbols that we that we create in our own mine to help us
understand the symbols that are significant in our societies.

DQ3-4

The term theory refers to a set of certain accepted beliefs or organize principles that explain and help to
enlighten us or to help explain phenomena. As an example, you have Darwin’s theory of evolution to
attempt to explain the origins of species. Another theory is heliocentric theory with this theory it
determines that the earth does not orbit around the sun.

According to our reading this week conversing is the interaction between two or more individuals in a
cooperative for conversational tone. Whereas informing is simply giving or relaying information.

DQ3-6

From what I gather informatics is our ability to use in process data and information from computer
technology as well as being able to access information from said technology.

DQ3-7

I believe the access to the Internet is a great source of information with one of its greatest strengths being
that the world is at our beck and call in an instant we can look up any subject regardless of how obscure
said subject maybe. Thus giving us a world of information in an instant I think this is the greatest strength
that the Internet provides as far as it being an information sources concerned. I do believe that one of the
greatest weaknesses of the Internet is that it’s accessibility also makes it an information source that can
be manipulated by those who seek to intentionally put bad information out on a particular subject. As an
example I would say the Wikipedia pages though nice in certain situations they give you a lot of helpful
information but they can also be edited or changed by anyone so therefore the information is subject as
far as its accuracy is concerned.

DQ3-8

I tend to restrict my sources as far as academic research is concerned to college databases as well as
scholarly articles and search engines such as world cat, or academic search complete. Thus avoiding the
disaster that usually find on people’s personal blogs or websites concerning the same subject is
researching.
DQ3-9

A Boolean search is a method developed by George bool a 19 century mathematician, this particular type
of search allows you to combine words and phrases to help better define your search parameters.

DQ3-10

One of the big differences between a scholarly source and a popular source is the scholarly source is
often peer-reviewed and/or approved by a group of experts in that particular field, with a popular source
you may get the writers opinions on the particular topic that you’re researching as well as in many popular
sources they are written by layman and not experts in the field.
