CATHOLIC CARE CHRISTMAS APPEAL Every year the Catholic Care Christmas Appeal helps those in need who are
disadvantaged, vulnerable or marginalised. Our focus at this special time of year is in supporting families in need in
our own communities to help bring some joy to what otherwise can be a very difficult time when life’s problems are
magnified.
Our Christmas Appeal takes many forms, enabling us to reach out and make a difference to as many families as
possible and to enable schools to contribute in a way that suits them. How would you like to help?
 Following the success of our Holiday Hunger Project in the summer and last year’s Christmas Cracker Project, we
are again teaming up with the Trussell Trust Food Bank to provide needy families, many identified through our
work in schools, with everything they need to make a Christmas dinner. We are also urgently appealing for non-
perishable items such as tins, jars, pasta and toiletries.
 Toys and Gifts - donations of unwrapped new presents to give a child the joy of receiving a gift at Christmas.
 Financial donations for the Crisis Fund, children and families in desperate need throughout the year.
Once your donations have been collected, our team will work right up to Christmas making deliveries to families.

PERU MISSION APPEAL 2019 The First Sunday of Advent is when a collection is taken throughout the Diocese for
the people of Peru. Your generosity helps a variety of people.
Our grant gives a group of young practicing Catholics the opportunity to complete their University degrees. It is a
chance they could only otherwise dream of and all are doing well. Many are trained catechists and all contribute to
the Life of their parishes.
Sida Vida, an organisation associated with the Columban Fathers, supports those who are affected by HIV and AIDS.
Many are refugees from Venezuela. It also works to protect women from violence and abuse. Hanoprem is a house
of adults with special needs and our funds help to support them in their community. All your generosity goes to
Peru and directly to those who study, provide healthcare and love for people in need. Thank you so much for your
support.

What is it about life that compels us to look in the places of the dead? Why do tombs and graveyards
exert such a magnetic attraction for us, so that we feel compelled to visit the graves of dead friends and
relatives or the tombs of the mighty?
I believe we visit places of the dead because we know that we are 'in-between' people, who exist in the
now of time, and at the same time in the not yet of the final coming. We are always in the now and on the
way, and we know somewhere in us that we are an Easter people, a people with hope even in darkness
and suffering. We know instinctively that death and life are one and that death does not mean separation
of the spirit. Rather it is a unity of the spirits in some mysterious way. The dead are closer to us in spirit
than they were when they were alive.

Between two worlds life hovers like a star,

'Twixt night and morn, upon the horizons verge.
How little do we know that which we are!

LORD BYRON
