Swimming - PE2 (PRELIM POINTERS)

Safety Precautions:
 Keep an eye on friends, classmates and family; drowning may occur a little as 20 secs.
For children and 60 secs for adult
 Stay out of the water when you are very tired, sick, very cold, or overheated.
 Swim in designated areas.
 Follow all swimming rules posted at the swimming area.
 Obey the lifeguard’s instruction or the assigned instructor.
 Practice and learn the “Reach, Throw, Tow and Go” method to help a drowning victim
 Avoid swimming at night in unlighted areas.
 Don’t chew gum or eat while swimming, you could choke.
 Do not push, shove, or run near the water, horseplay can be dangerous.
Pool Rules and Regulations:

 Take shower before swimming in the swimming pool.


 No running in the pool area
 Wear proper swimming attire
 Do not wear any accessories
 Do not swim with open wounds.
 Do not spit or pee in the swimming pool

Benefits:

 A good form of exercise


 Aids physical therapy and rehabilitation
 helps maintain a healthy weight, healthy heart and lungs.
 keeps your heart rate up but takes some of the impact stress off your body
 can provide you with a low-impact workout and it’s also a good way to relax and feel
good

Fundamentals:

 Gliding

 Bubbles/ bobbing
 Floating

ENGLAND- competitive swimming began


SWIMMING- the most complete form of exercise.
SIDE BREATHING- breathing technique applied for front crawl/ freestyle.
FRONTAL BREATHING- breathing technique applied for the breaststroke.
FLOATING- Movement if water without taking any effort, it is way of releasing tension and free
task of coordinating the limbs
25M- size of short course pool
50M- size of long course pool
Kick Board- where swimmers can rest their arms on , keep their bodies float and allows to
concentrate kicking correctly
Hand paddle- a colored plastic device worn by swimmers hands during swimming practices to
enhance muscle build up and speed.
Pull-buoy- swimming device use to place between legs, thighs and ankles to provide support of
the body without kicking the legs.

Remember:
Front crawl or free style is the fastest stroke in swimming.
Breast stroke is known as the slowest stroke.
Drowning is known as the silent killer.
Humans have been swimming for a thousand years.
Floating is the best skill and way to conserve energy in swimming
Water can transmit disease
