An android was introduced in the Martin Family for housekeeping and maintenance

responsibilities and was named “Andrew” inspired by

Little Miss, youngest daughter. He was observed that
he has emotions. Andrew broke Little Miss’ favorite
figurine once, but made another one made of carved
wood after at home. The family discovered Andrew is
creative and was brought back to company to ask if he
has alike, but the company’s CEO wanted to get rid of
him.
Two decades there after, Andrew cut offs his finger accidentally, so the owner (Sir) took him to
NorthAm Robotics for repairs, without spoiling its personality. Andrew requested to have a
more expressive face. Andrew learned he should have freedom but Sir was disheartened. Sir
finally agreed and he put out Andrew to complete his freedom. Sir said Andrew should stop
referring himself as “One”. Andrew was asked to see Sir lastly before his death and apologized
first for expelling Andrew.
He discovered natural programmed feminine robot, Galatea in more than a decade. Rupert
Burns owned Galatea, the son of the prime NDR robot designer. Creating a more human look
for robots is Rupert’s work but with no funding. Andrew agrees to finance his work and let
Andrew have artificial human form.
Andrew meets Little Miss’ granddaughter. Little Miss is suffering a stroke and is diagnosed.
Little Miss peacefully passes away with her wood figurine. Moreover, Andrew and Portia’s
relationship blossomed into romance. Andrew pleaded the World Congress to make him
declared as a whole human being to make him and Portia have a legal marriage. The petition
was rejected.
Years later, Andrew asked Rupert to have blood in his system to be old and die.
A decade more later, Andrew met World Congress again.
In year 2205: Human-looking Galatea is nurses them. Nevertheless, Andrew peacefully died
first. Portia requested Galatea to unplug her and died quietly, with Andrew and her hands
clasped together saying her last words, “See you soon”.

REACTION
Its genre was science fiction, family, drama, life which were all not I’d be keen on. I watched it
in the position for the sake of a class requirement, and re-watched again at home to help me
decompress for awhile with my family.
I tend to understand Andrew as if he is a real person. Though complicated, on the other hand,
this film did not left me flat as I first expected. It was more than a robot film and more than a
science fiction, it was also a romantic film as well for a wife fell in love with a robot. The robot
brought better lives to the Martin family. The “attitude” of the machine was nothing like
humans can make people feel to everyone. It was perfect, the kind of robot I would do anything
to have because of it’s empathy and impeccable service not only in the household chores but in
service as a great friend to everyone at the house. The robot was something you need to feel
anything but unhappiness. It was not your typical robot for he aims to be fully human, and he
was too wise to be a mere robot. It’s always humorous whenever he expresses his strive to be
like us. His want hit me in depth because everyone secretly wants to be like him. In the sense
that a robot couldn’t feel anything, therefore to be like the robot cannot feel unhappiness or
depression. Anyone would pay as much to just not feel or to be numb even in a brief moment
about the problems and the hurtful things that the living human could feel. Moreover, to my
realization, the reason why the robot would want to be like us is because humans also have
blessings despite of the lowest emotions I can sum—it’s opposite of it which is the happiness
and joy. Joy is deeper, it’s permanent. The robot wants to sense it, as what I would propose. I
believe he observes there is beneath than all the physical compositions of human, which is the
soul.
Andrew, the robot is very human. To be human is to be moral. Morality in in this movie is purely
a matter of acting correctly— at all a matter of thinking, feeling, or believing correctly. So it
doesn't matter what you think as long as you act correctly. He even has the very human
emotion. This traces the evolution of a robot from a typical machine to a real life breathing
person.
The movie ends up being the tale of a true human(robot) with amazing personality but at the
same time it is the tale of a man who is different on a quest for acceptance for almost two
decades . I reflected on the journey of each of us as pilgrims on the path of life and I realized
that I knew so many persons… the ones struggling to live within the reality of loss. Thank you
Andrew for the wonderful lessons.
