Citizens should participate in the life of their society

I think that the majority of people at least once ask themselves whether they
need participate in the life of their society. Undoubtedly their answer is
positive. But they don’t always follow their duty. As a result they are not
satisfied with their lives and their country. But every person should
remember that only participating in the social life, they can change their
country for the better. And as the American President John F. Kennedy said in
1961: “Ask not what your country can do for you – Ask what you can do for your
country.”

So people should participate in political life if they want some changes in the
country. A real democracy depends on citizens’ active participation and their
cooperation in political institutions. People must understand that a political
democratic order is not the only one to guarantee the advent of a democratic
society. On the contrary, they must be aware of the fact that the creation of a
democratic political society cannot happen without the participation of active and
mature citizens.

Only we – citizens can make great changes. We should remember that we

play an important role in the political life, that we - people -manifest our
national identity which implies the right to participate in the exercise of the
political power. As citizens, we claim our rights and obligations in order to
emphasize our liberties. Besides, in democratic systems, every decision is taken
according to the majority. For example, during elections we should forget about
such words a s “I don’t want”, “I don’t care”, “My vote will not change anything” as
our votes are very important and sometimes your vote can make the final decision.

Sometimes we do not see the results of our social work but we should not give way
to despair. We should always remember the words of Jan Jack Russo ‘Everything
that is useful for people can be implemented only with power, for private interests
contradict it’. And I think that our young people should take an active part in the
society or at least make some efforts towards it. We can remember the Orange
Revolution and how active people participated in it, standing upon their rights and
their decision. And they succeed. So we see that it is in our hands to change our
lives for the better.

In conclusion, I would like to notice that Socrates ... said he was not an Athenian or
a Greek, but a citizen of the world. And we should not forget that we are citizens of
our country and we should participate in the social life to improve our lives!
