Abstract: Philosophical ethics is, for Max Scheler, a model of human life to be adapted in the
ordo amoris of the person. This ideal or plan of life is opposed to the emerging trends
in the various strata of the person. But trends are not those which make the man to
grow, but his actions, even those made in the past influencing the present. Repentance
can give a new meaning and value to our past actions. But, in order not to be reduced
to a reconstruction of the spirit, repentance must include forgiveness, the elimination
of the negative value. Finally, we analyze the importance of the moral resentment that,
in Scheler’s words, «poisons the soul».
