analysis CRITIC/CONTEXT
There is an idea of Cassio being involved IN their lives
as she says she will nag Othello about it every minute
of every day. Desdemona is also going over the top
with the helping.
He is very deceptive and pretends very well. The
simple exclamatory sentence puts more paranoia into
Othello's mind"
This subsequent declarative sentencehas an almost
sarcastic and satirical tone to it as if Othello should KNOW
that he was insincere.

To have the power would not be an usual trait

for women to have in the Elizabethan Era.
Women would not have any power over how
men think or behave, but the idea that she asks
if she has "any" "power" to "move" him shows if
there is another technique to change his mind
like sex. Women's power, at the time, over men
Desdemona could be saying this to show how Othello would be of a sexual nature so we could
gives her the power as even Iago says she "is the general speculate this is of that. However, it could also

She uses repetitionof the conjunction "or" to represent

her desperation. The archaic exclamation "prithee"
reinforces the passion she has. However, could this just be
making Othello doubt her even more, why is she so
persistent? Desdemona also switches to Iambic
Pentameter when talking to Othello and stresses certain
syllables to make an effect on Othello.

Repeats here shows how he is eager to get rid of her and

shows a contrasting personality and attitude as as
husband than before, where he used very poetic
language.
Othello drops the meter half way and that creates tension
as it leaves everything hanging. Desdemona is his
sanctuary and he just lost her. It shows how fragile he
really is as Desdemona represents his control and sanity
also shows through his iambic pentameter.
He uses a metaphor to represent jealousy. It is quite ironic Many critics say that jealousy is the main theme
as he himself is jealous. of the play.

Here Othello says that he believes that Desdemona knows

who he was when she married him. He won't let his own
insecurities get in the way and convince him of
Desdemona's loyalty. He will look for proof first. This is
quite odd as he seems to be very believing and trusting in
Desdemona, right before he starts to believe Iago. He says
this in Iambic Pentametre as well, which reinforces the
strength of his belief in Desdemona.

Othello is wrestling with his fear and love. He thinks that

because he is black he does not have the compassion,
love or patience that others do (he is beginning to
conform to and convince himself that what people said
about him is true.) this is what was 'expected' from black
people.
