(Complete Syllabus of Class XII)

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS :
(i) All questions are compulsory.
(ii) Section A: Question number 1 to 20 are very short answer questions (objective type) and carry
1 mark each.
(iii) Section B: Question number 21 to 27 are short answer questions and carry 2 marks each.
(iv) Section C: Question number 28 to 34 are long answer questions and carry 3 marks each.
(v) Section D: Question number 35 to 37 are also long answer questions and carry 5 marks each.
(vi) There is no overall choice. However an internal choice has been provided in two questions of two
marks, two questions of three marks and all the three questions of five marks weightage. You have
to attempt only one of the choices in such questions.
(vii) Use log tables if necessary, use of calculator is not allowed.

SECTION-A

Read the given passage and answer the questions 1 to 5 that follow:

The d-block elements involve filling of (n – 1)d sub shells for their valence electrons while f-block is constituted by
lanthanoids and actinoids. These elements impart certain distinct characteristics like variable oxidation states,
paramagnetic behaviours, catalytic properties and tendency for the formation of coloured ions and interstitial
compounds and complexes. Lanthanoids exhibit +3 as the principal oxidation state, although +4 and +2 oxidation
states are also exhibited occasionally.

1. What is the reason for the extraordinary stability of Mn2+ and Zn2+ ions?

2. What is the general electronic configuration of d-block elements?

3. Out of Sc3+, Zn2+, Cr3+ and Ti4+ which one is coloured?

4. What is the most common oxidation state of Lanthanoids?

5. Why does MnO4– not disproportionate?

(A) Both assertion and reason are correct statements, and reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.
(B) Both assertion and reason are correct statements, but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.
(C) Assertion is correct, but reason is wrong statement.
(D) Assertion is wrong, but reason is correct statement.
16. Assertion : 4-Nitrobenzoic acid is more acidic than 4-methylbenzoic acid.
Reason : Electron withdrawing group increases the acidic character.
17. Assertion : Sucrose is a non-reducing sugar.
Reason : In sucrose the reducing groups of glucose and fructose are involved in glycosidic bond
formation.
18. Assertion : CH3 – CH2Br is more reactive towards SN2 than SN1.
Reason : Primary alkyl halides are most hindered.
19. Assertion : [Fe(CN)6]4– is an octahedral complex.
Reason : The oxidation state of Fe in [Fe(CN)6]4– is +2.
