PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The core product offers by EcoBlock Co. is made of a waste product from coal power

plants. It is also a cost-effective substitute for the commonly Hollow Block. The target

market for this product is the middle-low income households who are planning to build

their own low-cost houses in some parts of Metro Cebu, specifically in Mandaue, Lapu-

Lapu, and Cebu City. The product offers high-quality standards with an average price

range. The company will introduce the product to the market through advertising

strategies such as social media technologies (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.).

Physical Properties

Fly Ash Hollow Block is similarly used with the ordinary concrete masonry unit as

common boundary fences in building large structures. The only difference that makes

the product unique is that it will be innovated and improved by adding a component

which is fly ash, which can make hollow block environment-friendly construction

material. The product is sustainable and eco-friendly than the leading hollow block in the

market. In terms of appearance, the Fly Ash Hollow Block is a standard size rectangular

block used in building construction.

Functional Properties

The main function of Fly Ash Hollow Block is to provide an additional livelihood to the

people of Toledo and to reduce the pollution caused by the accumulation of the waste

II. RAW MATERIALS

Description of Raw Materials

Fly Ash refers to the ash product produced

during the combustion of coal. It is fine

powder formed from the mineral matter in

coal, consisting of the non-combustible

matter in coal plus a small amount of carbon

that remains from incomplete combustions.

It is being accumulated as waster material in

large quantities near thermal power plants.

Sand it can be combined with cement

molecules to increase the diffusion area of

cement molecules and form cement slurry to

enhance the hydration of cement. It has a

certain lubricating effect and improves the

workability of the concrete mixture.

 Portland Cement is the hydraulic binding

material consisting of limestone or granulated

blast furnace slag, and a limited amount of

gypsum. It is an excellent building material

generally used for its excellent binding

properties giving strength to structural

elements.

Availability of Raw Materials

Fly Ash

Fly Ash will be the main material in producing hollow blocks. It is a byproduct

waste, produced at Toledo City’s solar plant. Fly ash is abundant in Toledo, so

there is no problem with the availability of the product.

Sand

Sand has a high variety of uses in the construction industry where it is mixed in

to help create concrete, brick, cob, and mortar. Sand that is used for construction

is from riverbanks, quarries, beach sand, or underwater sand. There are many

top importers of the sand and are very abundant in Philippines.

Portland Cement

Portland Cement is manufactured by combining various elements including

calcium, silicon, iron, aluminum and other ingredients. Portland cement finds use

in various applications including construction, infrastructure, cement bricks,

 plasters and screeds. There is no problem with the availability of the Portland

cement.
