Design Objectives

The project aims to provide required spaces that follow the primary function of
the building wherein the facilities are used effectively in accordance to the needs of the
users. It must come up a learning environment that is safe, connects with nature, and
comfortable place that encourages the children to acquire knowledge, participate,
improve performances, and be flexible in various activities that will hone their intellectual
and other skills.

Design Problem and Solution

Number of Classrooms
The Pre-School Institution has three sessions per day (AM, Mid, and PM
sessions). As each session consists of four sections per Nursery, Kindergarten 1, and
Kindergarten 2 and has a maximum of 10 students only.

NURSERY KINDERGARTEN 1 KINDERGARTEN 2

Section 1 10 students Section 1 10 students Section 1 10 students

2 10 students 2 10 students 2 10 students
3 10 students 3 10 students 3 10 students
4 10 students 4 10 students 4 10 students
Total number of students: 120 per session
Total number of students: 360 per day

Therefore there will be 12 classrooms needed to accommodate the one hundred

twenty 120 students per session.

In accordance to the DEPED Order No. 64, s. 2017, the following classrooms
follows its policy statement that it considers ergonomics, anthropometrics, thermal
comfort, illumination, ventilation, acoustics, color and compliance with laws.

Parking Slots

As for the parking lots, it shall provide 1 parking slot per 2 students (1:2
ratio). This means that:

120 students per session = 60 parking slots

Providing at least 10% from the computed number parking slot for the Person
with disabilities (PWD),

60 x .10 = 6 parking slots

Taking into consideration that there will be school bus services as this facility
consists of children, then there will be provided spaces for it. Hence, there will be 1
parking slot per grade as one school bus accommodates more than 10 persons, this
way

Here is the table of the summary of the overall parking slots

With that, the number of classrooms and parking slots are the required number of
spaces according to the given specifications. However, it doesn’t mean that it limits to
the computed areas, it can still be added throughout the creation of the design of the
facility but should not be decreased as it follows the primary requirements given.

These are list of the necessary spaces needed inside the Primary School.

According to the school’s educational policies, they’re fostering children who are
healthy and happy, appreciate nature and beauty, can learn and think independently
and care about others. As children nowadays spend their time less playing outdoors,
their goal is to give them opportunities to be outside, to interact directly with nature and
to gain a feel for living with nature.
As said by the Architect of the
school, he used materials that can
withstand the weather in the exterior
and uses wood on the interior to create
a room that looks warm and
welcoming. The common causes of
injuries of the students are fall
accidents this way, the floor joists and
solid oak moderate the damage from
falling.

In terms of its space planning,

they aim to prioritize the teacher-
children relationship, the reason why
the location of the faculty room can
easily interact with the students.

They created hallways around

the nurseries so that the students can
enjoy running throughout the whole
building and can even do it on rainy
days. They also consider the area of
the parents, providing benches near
the entrance and an outdoor eating
place for the children to have an
opportunity to with their guardian
during break or lunchtime.

Based on their educational policies,

they teach children that everyone is
different and correct, help children
to become independent and
believes that “Surprise” is the
mother of “understanding”. As they
let the children explore because it
helps them to feel and think, and
take action on their own

The concept of the

kindergarten is based on that “a
kindergarten building is a huge
playground for children’s growth, a
tool for fostering children.” As they
created a huge space for the children
to move around and to explore from
the courtyard up to the rooftop that
helps the children to build their
strength, social skills, and physical
development. The design encourages
the students to do outdoor activities
and play as it develops their
characteristic.
