INTRODUCTION TO THE SCO 10

1. Introduction to the SCO 10

The SCO 10 is a control and protection panel used for generating sets; it shows the
settings measured on its displays. The Unit is designed for easy use, for both installer and end-user
alike.

1.1. Safety Instructions

Remote control

SCO 10 controller can be remotely controlled. If working on the genset, check that
nobody can remotely start the engine.
To be sure, perform one of the following actions:
- Disconnect remote control via RS232 line
- Disconnect input REM START/STOP
- Disconnect output STARTER

Symbols
Symbols used in this manual:

In no case touch the terminals for voltage and current measurement!

Always connect grounding terminals!

3. Installation
The controller is to be mounted onto the switchboard door. Requested cutout size is
175x115mm. Use the screw holders delivered with the controller to fix the controller into the door
as described on the pictures below.

Then, it is necessary to connect male connector (engine installation wire) to female connector
(SCO 10)

3.1. Kit second panel SCO 10 (ref. 60974600S)

The first step to install the remote SCO 10 is to Connect the communication wire from
main SCO 10 to REMOTE SCO 10 as is specified in wiring diagrams. The black wire in REMOTE SCO
10 communication wire end must be connected to earth.

MAIN SCO 10 communication wire end REMOTE SCO 10 communication wire end

Finally, it is necessary to connect to battery (red wire to positive and black wire to negative).

alarm list on the last screen.
2. The Setpoints page contains all setpoints organized in groups and also a special group
for entering password.
3. The History log page shows the history log in reverse order, so the last record is displayed
first.

ALARM MANAGEMENT

5. Alarm Management

The following alarms are available:

• Breaker open and cooling (BOC)

• Warning
• Shut down

5.1. Breaker open and cooling (BOC)

When the control panel detects a problem related to the alternator. The panel stops the
genset gradually.

5.2. Warning (WRN)

Warning. No reason to stop the group. This is a warning to informative level. Normally it is
a value of a parameter that is below / above the standard value but does not exceed the limit
pre-configured to stop the engine.

5.3. Shut Down (SD)

When the Control Panel orders drastically stop the engine.

5.4. Voltage phase sequence detection

SCO 10 controller detects phase sequence on generator voltage terminals. This

protection is important after controller installation to avoid wrong voltage phase connection. The
following alarms can be detected:

Wrong phase sequence

There is a fix defined phase sequence in SCO 10 controller L1, L2, L3. When the phases are
connected in different order (e.g. L1, L3, L2 or L2, L1, L3) the following alarms are detected:

Gen CCW Rot = wrong generator phase sequence

Hint: Phase sequence detection is active when voltage in all three phases is >50VAC and
all phases angles are in the range 120° ± 20. Phase sequence alarm detection is 1 sec delayed to
avoid transient effects.

6.5. SMS/E-mail (Optional equipment)

Remote alarm messaging

If a GSM modem and/or Internet bridge is connected to the controller, this can send SMS
messages and/or e-mails in the moment when a new alarm appears in the Alarm list. The
message will contain a copy of the Alarm list.
To enable this function, you should select with setpoints Yel Alarm Msg and Red Alarm Msg, which
levels of alarms shall be announced (red/yellow/both) and also enter valid GSM phone number
and/or e-mail address to the setpoints TelNo/Addr Ch1 and TelNo/Addr Ch2. It is possible to put
either a GSM number or e-mail to both setpoints.

NOTE: An internet module must be available for sending of e-mails. Similarly, a GSM
modem is necessary for sending of SMS.

Hint: There are 5 attempts for any active call (SMS/E-Mail). Timeout for connection is 90
sec and after 120 sec controller starts the next attempt. During the time the IL-NT is trying to send
an active call type, incoming calls are blocked.

9. Maintenance

9.1. Backup battery replacement

The internal backup battery should be replaced approx. every 5-7 years. Replace the
battery if the alarm Low BackupBatt occurs. Follow these instructions:

1. Disconnect all terminals from the controller and remove the controller from the
switchboard.

2. Release the rear cover using a flat screwdriver or another

suitable tool.

3. Remove all plug-in modules.

4. The battery is located in a holder on the circuit board.

Remove the old battery with a small sharp screwdriver and
push with a finger the new battery into the holder. Use only
CR1225 lithium battery.

5. Put the rear cover back. Use slight pressure to lock the snaps into the housing. Pay
attention that the cover is in correct position and not upside down!

6. Plug the modules back into the slots.

7. Power the controller on, adjust date and time and check all setpoints.
