Statement of Purpose

My name is Harvinder Singh. I am undergraduate student wish to continue his studies at globally
rated five star University in Australia. My admission is approved for Master of Information
Technology at University of Wollongong and I have to start my classes on 19th November, 2018.

To give little background about my academic and my career goals, I am writing this letter to support
my application for Student visa subclass 500.

My Proper aptitude in mathematics with the right application of logics, sublime performance in
physics and chemistry, adequate analytical thinking and good academics which I have acquired during
my schooling at ____________School helped me to secure me a place in Kurukshetra University. The four
year program of Computer science & engineering has laid a strong foundation for me in such a way
that I have enhanced my knowledge in both Software and Hardware as well. My fields of interests are
DBMS and operating systems. I have developed a few Software programs in C, C++, DS, SQL, HTML,
UNIX and Java.

Computers and Technology have fascinated me right from my childhood and I have always had it in
my mind to choose Information Technology for my engineering. As the years passed my eagerness
grew and so did my thirst to attain higher education and now is the perfect time for me to ignite the
spark in me. This has given me the courage to analyze the fact that I have a herculean task ahead in
order to comprehend an extensive proportion of subject and enjoy it while assimilating the problems.

The four year engineering course in Information Technology has always been a beautiful experience
and has inspired me to put the knowledge into my Masters degree. This would allow me to enhance
my knowledge about technology and its pros and cons and the guidance I would need. Gone are those
days when man had to slog for simple works, he has advanced into boundaries which are
unimaginable and has made his life easy, being an essential part of such an advancement has always
been my motive. To attain my goal, my first priority would be in the field of research which will
consist experiencing the applications in the real world steered by comprehensive know-how about
technology. Technology has prevailed and casted its spell to parts unknown and now has been
imbibed into man.

Seminars conducted in the classes by me, practical training and many other courses have enriched my
knowledge in this field. Now I wish to pursue my further studies in research and want to enhance my
technical skills to higher level.
I have searched over other countries as well and found Australia is something unique to offer. UK, USA
and Australia are the top 3 study destinations. After a thorough research over reputation, education
quality, education format, safety, lifestyle, weather and value for money I decided for Australia. As, I
found UK is the most expensive country for Indian students, followed by US and then Australia. In my
research, I found that, on average, the annual tuition fees are lower in the Australia ($24,320-
$40,000) than in the USA ($30,647-$47,000) and in UK ($43,100- $56,790). Canada is never on my list
as it’s climate conditions are Extreme, temperature may drop down to -10 degrees or even less, which
I will not be able to tolerate.

During my research I found, Indian student enrollments in Australian Universities stand tall at the
second position after China. As per records from 2017, about 17.1 % out of the total student
population in Australia are none other than our Indians students. This not only reflects the staggering
awareness among the Indians about brilliant overseas education opportunities that lie in Australia but
also the favorable atmosphere of the country for them to grow and evolve.

When considering education abroad, a great part of the decision depends on the return on investment
that could be generated on the initial investment that was made. Australian government has set up a
framework known as the Australian Qualifications Framework that ensures equal opportunities and
recognition for the students who have graduated out of a specific course from any university
throughout the country.

This warrants equal acknowledgement of the education degree throughout Australia and gives more
emphasis on the quality rather than the university.

After taking decision to continue my education Australia, Now I have to search a best institution which
helps me to achieve my career goals. Top ranking universities which offer Master of Information
technology are UTS, Macquarie, University of Sydney, UWS, UOW and ACU. I go for University of
Wollongong as it offers the industrial experience which gives me impressive CV, a network of contacts
and a significant advantage over other graduates. Also, when I knew about research options available
at UOW without any second thought I applied for UOW.

UOW is better ranked and ranked top 2% of QS world ranking. ACU offers this course on low fee
structure but the course is more oriented towards OS and networking. UWS and UTS are very
expensive as compare to UOW and the course curriculum at UOW best suits my interest and career
goals. The Faculty at UOW is one of largest sites of ICT research in the southern hemisphere. It has
strong industrial links with major international companies, collaborative research and development
projects with partners in South East Asia, Europe and USA, along with research partnerships in China,
UK, USA, Thailand, Singapore, South Korea and India.

I want to study in New south wales because compared to other states, it has the closest weather to
India. In that sense, I don’t need to make huge physical and mental adjustments. Wollongong city is
known as the city of Innovation and ideal for aspiring students. Wollongong is also the 3rd largest city
of New South Wales and only an hour south of Sydney’s International airport. Most importantly,
Wollongong's low cost of living helps International students at UOW to enjoy high quality of living
standards at low cost while maintaining full focus on studies away from all distractions.

About my course:

The Master of Information Technology is aimed to develop an in-depth study of the organizational,
economic, regulatory and socio-technical issues that arise in the implementation and application of IT,
and how to effectively manage these issues.

As I discussed earlier my DBMS and operating systems are my key strengths and MIT course at UOW
focuses more in system and database. My first year study also includes programming and designing. In
the second year I will have the opportunity to do a research project and I choose information system
development for my project. In this filed, I will get quality skills for web programming, enterprise
architecture design, system integration, web services and system development methodologies as well.

On completion of this program, I will be able to research, synthesize and apply key information and
expert judgment in IT, system design and project planning. I will be able to work as an individual and
as a team in manner consistent with ethical and professional standards. By studying this course at
UOW I will be able to be a leader in innovation techniques and IT industry.
The Master of Information Technology is being assessed by the Australian Computer Society as
potentially meeting the requirements for membership at a “Professional Level”.
