1.) Define systematic theology and discuss its relationships with other theological
disciplines (historical theology, philosophical theology, apologetics, Old Testament
theology, New Testament theology, and biblical theology).

Answer: Systematic theology is a form of theology that combines practices, data and
information acquired from other theologies and presents it as a whole in a broad and clear
way. Systematic theology answers the big questions of what the bible as a whole has to
say about a particular topic(Doctrine).
In relation to other Theologies, Historical Theology focuses on teachings relevant to the
time they were taught to christains in, Philosophical theologies, Is the understanding of
God and his word with reasoning alone.Apologetics is defending the legitimacy of the
christain faith in order to minister to and save non believers. Old and New Testament
theologies focus on teachings in the orders they were taught and biblical theology
accommodates teachings from both the Old and New Testament, it also takes into
account the authors, time period and place and how it affects the readers.

2.) What is a “doctrine”, and how does this relate to the study of systematic theology?

Answer: A Doctrine is a teaching on a particular topic, it relates to the study of


systematic theology because of how the sub doctrines(major and minor) complement
it.Major doctrines are teachings with significant impacts on christain thoughts and life
while minor doctrines is a less significant impact on christain thoughts and life. Doctrines
go hand in hand with systematic theologies because one teaches about various
topics(Doctrine) and one seeks to learn about a particular topic or various topics
(Systematic theology).

3.) Give four reasons why christians should study systematic theology?

Answer: - To effectively carry out the great commission with in depth understanding.
- To overcome wrong ideas on what we may hold about a doctrine.
- To help us answer questions that may arise concerning a particular doctrine.
- To help us grow spiritually as christans in depth knowledge of the word of God is
something every christain should desire.
4.) Name six attitudes or activities that should characterize or accompany the study of
systematic theology.

Answer: - Studying with prayer, praying for understanding because it is not understood
by intellect.
-Studying with humility and not developing pride in having the knowledge.
-Studying also with reasoning, by coupling some human reasoning with spiritual
teachings as long as human reasoning does not contradict the scriptures.
-Studying with the help of others, the level of spiritual maturity differs with everyone and
actively searching for different perspectives on scriptures broadens the mind of the
individual.
- Collect and understand all the relevant passages of scriptures on a specific topic
including particular verses of relevance on which to summarize a solid point.
- Study with rejoicing and praise because as the Holy spirit reveals, it should bring joy
and happiness.

5.) In what ways(if any) has this chapter changed your understanding of what systematic
theology is, what is your attitude towards the study of systematic theology before reading
this chapter? What is your attitude

Answer: Before reading this book i had no idea what systematic theology really meant
but I had an open attitude when diving into this chapter. My knowledge on who God is is a little
bit more advanced than most people and that knowledge was gained through various experiences
with God since i was a little child. Through this study I will now be able to back up known
knowledge with scriptural evidence.
