FOCUS:

STATEMENT OF
NEED:
Through this process, the main issue we
hope to address is depression. This is an
important problem in today's society;
and, by addressing it within our school
community, we can make a difference.
Through our meme scavenger hunt, we
can make people laugh and hopefully
brighten their day. With all the stress
students face in school, sports, and their
outside life, we hope that the meme
hunt will provide a getaway from reality
for those who are feeling down. We
hope that the laughter will let them
forget about what they’re going
through, even if it’s only for a short
amount of time.
SUMMARY:
In today’s society, depression among teens for the
past decade has been neglected as a major
problem, snowballing into a bigger epidemic. Our
solutionary idea is to create a type of meme
scavenger hunt, with memes tht will brighten the
students day, temporarily reducing stress and
anxiety. There will be 1 word on each meme and a
QR code, where they will get a hint to where the
next meme is. In the end, a moral phrase will be
created.
PROJECT ACTIVITY
AND OUTCOMES:
The meme scavenger hunt combines the
traditional approach of dealing with those who
suffer from depression with a new way. We felt
that the traditional approach of just being
positive only gets people to focus more on their
condition. Through laughter, we can get
individuals with depression to forget about their
problems for a short time. The meme scavenger
hunt will be open to the whole school for a week.
We’re the best people to carry out the project
because we are using a newer approach to a
problem that has been typically treated by adults.
I feel like we have a better understanding of what
will be more effective for people our age which
will allow us to relate to and be more effective
when dealing with those who are depressed.

We will assess the project’s success by

keeping track of how many people
participate in our meme hunt. Our
DEPRESSION
methodology is a laugh will give people
temporary happiness, reducing stress
and anxiety, overall creating a healthier
school environment. Many adults today
have had many different experiences
than us young teens, so when a teen
tries to help other teens of the same
age, it will overall be more effective.
COSTS:
Since the barcodes will only be up for a
week, there is no need for extra funding.
Everything we need for this project, we
already have access to. The only thing
we need to pay for would be the
chocolate which we can pay for out of
pocket since the cost will be relatively
cheap.
DISSEMINATION:
Our main goal for this project is to bring
joy to as many people within our school
community as possible. We hope to
achieve this through the meme hunt by
making people laugh. Since our project is
done on a smaller scale (just within our
school), we can document our progress and
effect of the hunt. We can utilize social
media to get more people involved and
maybe even apply what we’ve learned on a
broader scale. By posting information on
our website about what we’ve learned, we
can help spread information about this
mental disorder.
