1 Introduction
This document reports all the items available for configuring the SPO 1400
nodes together with the relevant composition rules.
2 Racking Options
Ericsson SPO 1400 supports rack mounting sets for several rack types: ETSI
style 2.2m rack, 1/BYB 501 220 and 5/BYB 501 220 racks. The Ericsson
preferred solution is to use BYB 501 220 rack types.
The BYB 501 rack is intended to house subrack, cable shelf subrack, fan unit
subrack or other subrack complying with the IEC 917-2-2 standard.
The rack may also house subracks that comply with the 19-inch standard (IEC
60297), provided that frames with the suitable intersection of holes are used.
In addition, the basic cabinet may be configured for 500 mm wide subracks,
thereby fulfilling the ETS 300 119-3 standard (miscellaneous type).
Figure 1 shows the 1/BYB 501 220 rack variant (as example).

conjunction with SM-2x10GE-10xGE-A (cod. ROA 128 3720/1).
A R2.0 SPO 1410 system can be upgraded to a software Release greater than
3.0 to use the SM-2x10GE-10xGE-A (cod. ROA 128 3720/1).
SM-2x10GE-10xGE-A (cod. ROA 128 3720/1) cards are those with higher
power consumption in the system, hence they have the higher impact in terms
of upgrading.
Do!
The Customer MUST make sure that the system is provided with the "Upgrade
Kit 1410 with FAN-B" (cod. NTM 101 2345). In order to take full advantage of
the "FM-B 1410 Fan Module NEBS" (cod. BKV 106 098) cooling capability, the
SC equipped in the system (either the SC-A-4xSTM - cod. ROA 219 1117/2
- or the SC-A-1x10GE - cod. ROA 219 1118/2) MUST be in R-State R1B or
higher (refer to Module HW Inventory in Reference [2]). In case that the SC/s
equipped in the system is not in the correct R-State, this MUST be returned
to Ericsson for HW Upgrade.
For XFP Type and location, the following rules MUST be observed:
• In the left-hand (slot 3 and 5), all the XFP modules can be supported.
Note: For the full list of supported SFP and XFP modules, refer to
Reference [3].
• When 2 DWDM/ER/ZpR XFP modules are equipped in the left-hand, all the
other 6 XFP modules can be LH, LR, SX.
• When 4 DWDM/ER/ZpR XFP modules are equipped in the left-hand, all the
other 4 XFP modules can be LR, SX, but not LH.
Two System Controller Modules can be used to provide redundancy for the
system controller, the TDM matrix and the Ethernet crossbar. The traffic
interfaces located on the System Controller Modules are not protected by
equipment protection.
The system runs in redundant mode whenever there are two System Controller
Modules present that satisfy the criteria for redundant operation. In redundant
operation, the two-processor systems operate as ACTIVE and WARM
STANDBY. The module in warm standby runs in a standby, partly initialized
state where it maintains its configuration database synchronized with the active
module. Dynamic data for selected applications are also synchronized.
The traffic interfaces on the system controller modules are available for traffic on
both the active and the standby system controller module. The traffic interface
types available on the system controller modules do not necessarily have to be
the same in both slots, but the controller software must be compatible.

The 14-slots LGX® chassis is always used if the width of the required items
is more than 1 slot (see Table 87.)
The use of the 14-slots LGX® chassis can be preferred also if the required
items have a width of 1 slot but they are at least 7 (in this case 3 3-slots LGX®
chassis are needed) or 10 (in this case 4 3-slots LGX® chassis are needed).
In the other cases it is preferable the adoption of the 3-slots LGX® chassis.
The 14-slots LGX® chassis has not constrains in the slot type so it is possible
to use whichever slots for the different type of passive items (see Table 87) if
they fit.
The allocation sequence for 14-slots LGX® chassis depending on the width of
the passive items to use could be: first insert 2 slots width items and then 1
slot width items.
13 Power Consumption
Each SPO chassis terminates two redundant power feeds from the PDU (either
an A feed or B feed from a single breaker module). Each power entry is EMI
filtered to prevent shelf generated noise from being radiated.
The total power consumption dictates the minimum gauge of power cable and
the power plant that can be safely used for the switch.
Caution!
In order to avoid possible equipment damage, when installing additional
power-consuming hardware parts in the system, recalculate the power
consumption (and current required) and install the appropriate cabling and
fuses or breakers, if necessary.
To determine the minimum gauge of cable that can be used, calculate the input
current that the system configuration requires by proceeding as described
in the following:
1. Determine the power consumption in Watts for each switch by totalling the
maximum power consumption of the individual parts. Use theTable 89 for
the hardware parts. The information in the table allow calculating the total
typical and maximum power consumption.
Do!
Always use the maximum value in the calculation.
2. Divide each shelf’s total maximum consumption in Watts by the worst case
voltage (for example: 40.5 V for “48 Vdc” power systems), or by the low
cutoff voltage at the Power Distribution Unit (PDU) input if the power system
uses a low voltage disconnect device.
This calculation provides the current in amps (single feed maximum) that
each shelf requires.
3. Choose a gauge of power cable that is rated for the current in amps that
each shelf requires, and rated according to the distance between the power
source and the PDU to ensure the voltage drop is less than 1.75 V.
Attention!
To prevent nuisance tripping of the breakers, they need to be rated at least 25
to 30% above the calculated amperage for the system, to a maximum of the
125 A breaker rating.
Table 89 reports the typical and maximum power consumption of the modules
that can be equipped into SPO 1400.
Note: All the value reported in Table 89 do not included pluggable module
power consumption, unless specifically indicated. For Pluggable
Modules Power Consumption refer to Table 90.
