Create a Windows 10 USB Installation Media


1. Visit https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 using a Windows computer.
2. Click on Download tool now.

3. Accept the MICROSOFT SOFTWARE LICENSE TERMS.


4. Next, select Create installation media.

5. Next, uncheck the Use the recommended options for this PC and make the selections as they
appear in the screenshot below:

6. Next, select USB flash drive and click Next. You must plug-in a USB thumb drive before you can
continue.
7. Make sure that your USB drive is shown in the list of drives and then click on Next.

8. The process will start. It will take about 15 to 20 minutes. When it is done, you will get a message
Your USB flash drive is ready; click Finish.

Install the Windows 10


1. Plug the Win10 USB flash drive into the computer that you want to upgrade. Since we will do a
clean installation of Windows, make sure you first back-up any user files that you don’t want to
lose.
2. Turn-on the computer and boot from the USB flash drive.
o You may need to enable boot from external devices in the computer’s BIOS environment
o You may need to disable secure boot in the computer’s BIOS environment
3. In the first installation screen, make the selections as they appear below and click Next.

4. In the Activate Windows screen, you can enter the product key. You may also select I don’t have
a product key, and Windows will automatically find it later, through the device’s BIOS.

5. If asked, select Windows 10 Pro and click Next.

6. Accept the license terms and click Next.
7. Select Custom: Install Windows only.

8. Remove (delete) all existing partitions, until you only get Unlocated Space, like below:

9. Click on New and then Apply; the Windows installation will create the necessary partitions:
o 2 partitions if the computer is BIOS enabled
o 4 partitions if the computer is UEFI enabled
Then, click Next.

10. Sit back and relax while the Windows installation takes place.
11. Select your region and click Yes.
12. Select the US as a keyboard layout and click Yes.
13. Next, you can either choose to add a second keyboard now or later in Settings.
14. In the How would you like to set up page, select Set up for personal use and click Next.

15. In the Sign in with Microsoft page, select Offline account.

16. In the Sign in to enjoy the full range of Microsoft apps page, select Limited experience.
17. In the Who’s going to use this PC page, enter omnipotent. This will be the default administrator
account. Do not enter a password yet, as if you do, you will be required to enter security questions,
as well. You will enter a password for the user account, after the installation is compete.
18. In the Do more across devices with activity history page, click No.
19. In the Get hep from your digital assistant page, click Decline.
20. In the Choose privacy settings for your device page, uncheck all options and click Accept.
21. Installation will finish and you will be automatically logged-in to the omnipotent user account.

Configure the Windows 10 Installation
After you have logged-in as omnipotent, and before you create the user account for the actual user that
will get the computer, do the following:

1. Run the Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc), navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative
Templates > All settings and set the following group policies:
a. Allow Corporate redirection of Customer Experience Improvement uploads à Disable
b. Allow Cortana à Disabled
c. Allow Cortana above the lock screen à Disable
d. Allow Microsoft Edge to pre-lauch at Windows startup, when the system is idle […] à
Enable (Prevent Pre-launching)
e. Allow Microsoft Edge to start and load the Start and New Tab […] à Enable (Prevent tab
preloading)
f. Configure Automatic Updates à Disable
g. Don’t search the web or display web results in Search à Enabled
h. Enable Win32 long paths à Enabled
i. Tag windows Customer Experience Improvement data with Study Identifier à Disabled
j. Turn off Microsoft Consumer experiences à Enabled
2. Enter z00l@nd3r as omnipotent’s password via Windows Settings.
3. Run Windows updates. You may need to look for available updates, multiple times.
4. If the computer is a Lenovo product, install Lenovo System Update for Windows and run all
available updates. Do not install any additional Lenovo software. It is not needed.
5. Install .NET Framework 3.5 (HTTP and Non-HTTP) from the Windows ON/OFF Features
capability. This is needed for the Salesforce for Outlook add-on.
6. Change the computer (host) name according to your naming convention. Talk with Mahi about
the computer naming convention. How-to: Settings > System > About and click on the Rename PC
button in the right side, under Device Specifications.
7. After renaming the computer, install the Kaseya agent and Webroot antivirus. Again, talk with
Mahi about this.
8. Here follows the standard software that we, in the USA, install on all computers:
a. Microsoft Office 365 (it activates through the user’s Office 365 profile)
b. OneNote 2016 (Starting in March 2020, the OneNote desktop app will be installed when you install Office 365)

c. Mozilla Firefox
d. Google Chrome
e. Adobe Acrobat XI (Run update package)
f. Microsoft Visio 2016 Viewer
g. Dropbox client
h. Standard USGBC fonts
i. Adobe Air (required for LEED Desk app)
9. Create a new user account for the user that you will assign the computer to. Make the user
account a standard account, not an Administrator.
10. Log-in as the user and do the following:
a. Configure the VPN profile, based on the relative instructions
b. Initialize the OneDrive local library
c. Configure the user’s Outlook profile
d. Map the P: Drive
e. Install any printers
f. Set Acrobat XI as default PFD handler

g. Set Outlook as the default e-mail handler
h. Set Google Chrome or Firefox as the default Internet browser
