5. Six sixes in an over:

 #1 Sir Garfield Sobers – Nottinghamshire, 1968:

One of the best all-rounders to have graced this wonderful game of cricket, Sir Garfield Sobers,
made a historic achievement on August 31, 1968. Once described as a 'five in one cricketer' by
the great man Sir Donald Bradman, Sobers became the first cricketer to smash 6 sixes in a single
over in first class cricket.

He managed this unbelievable achievement against Malcolm Nash of Glamorgan while

playing for Nottinghamshire as captain. The over consisted of five clean hits for six and one six
where the ball landed in the hands of Roger Davis but was unfortunately carried over the
boundary rope. Before this feat, Ted Alleston held the record of scoring most runs in an
over, which was 34 runs.

 #2 Ravi Shastri – Bombay, 1985:

It took 16 years for someone to match Sir Gary’s achievement and it was Indian batsman Ravi
Tilak Raj
Shastri, who, in the year 1984, scored six sixes in an over against left-arm spinner
in a Ranji Trophy Match between Bombay and Baroda. He also went on to score the fastest ever
double century in first-class cricket history in the same match.

 #3 Herschelle Gibbs – South Africa, 2007:

South African opening batsman Herschelle Gibbs was the first batsman to hit six sixes in an over
in a One-Day International (ODI) match. His feat came in the 2007 World Cup at St. Kitts,
Basseterre, as he bludgeoned Daan van Bunge of Netherlands all around the park
for six sixes in one over.
Herschelle Gibbs became the first ever batsmen to achieve this feat in international cricket (the
other two players - Sir Gary Sobers and Ravi Shastri did so in domestic matches). Herschelle
Gibbs still holds the record for being the only player to score 6 sixers in an over in a World Cup
match.
 #4 Yuvraj Singh – India, 2007:
Yuvraj Singh or ‘Yuvi’ as he is fondly called, went all guns blazing when he sent Stuart
Broad for six ruthless maximums in an over during the World T20 in 2007 against England.
A somewhat ugly spat with Andrew Flintoff in that very game spurred Yuvi on as he dispatched
the England fast bowler to almost all corners of the park.

 #5 Alex Hales – Nottinghamshire, 2015:

Alex Hales, while playing for Nottinghamshire in the Natwest T20 Blast against Warwickshire last
week, gave a gentle reminder to the England selectors of his ability as he smashed six
consecutive sixes to help his side to victory.

Off the 4th ball of the 11th over from Boyd Rankin , Hales hit a gigantic six and
replicated it on the last two balls as well. He got the strike on the 2nd ball of the next over and
hit 3 more sixes off consecutive deliveries to complete his unique feat of six consecutive sixes
but in two different overs.

 #6 Hazratullah Zazai- Kabul Zwanan, 2018:

Hazratullah Zazai continued his good run of form in the Afghanistan Premier League 2018 by
smacking six sixes in an over for Kabul Zwanan against Balkh Legends during the 14th game of
the tournament on Sunday.
Bowling just the fourth over of the game, with the side defending a mammoth total of 244,
Abdullah Mazari, a left-arm spinner, making his first appearance in the tournament would have
hoped for a steady start but the debutant got the shock of his life.
Hazratullah Zazai, the 20-year-old, took him apart hitting him for six sixes, taking 37 runs from
the first over which included a wide. Zazai brought up his fifty in just 12 balls, the joint-fastest in
the history of T20 cricket.
He was eventually dismissed for a 17-ball 62. Zazai has been in fine form having already scored a
ton earlier against Nangarhar Leopards in the tournament.

 #7 Leo Carter has become the first New Zealander to hit six sixes in an over in T20
cricket. The 25-year-old left-hand batsman achieved the feat during the course of an unbeaten
29-ball 70 that helped Canterbury Kings chase down 220 against Northern Districts in the Super
Smash tournament on Sunday Jan 5th, 2020.

6. Afghanistan's Mohammad Shahzad became the first player to score fifties in two
separate international matches on the same day, hitting half-centuries in the semi-final and final of the
Desert T20 Challenge on Friday. Afghanistan played their semi-final against Oman in Dubai on Friday
where Shahzad made 80(60). The same evening Afghanistan defeated Ireland in the final, with Shahzad
scoring 52(40).

7. Mohinder Amarnath: Man of the Match, 1983 WC Final: India vs West Indies.
8. Ravi Shastri: Man of the Series, 1983 WC.
9. Clarrie Grimmet : Born on Christmas Day, this bowler never delivered a no-ball or a
wide in a Test career in which he bowled 14,513 deliveries (more than 2418 overs).
Clarence Victor "Clarrie" Grimmett (25 December 1891 – 2 May 1980) was a cricketer; although born in
New Zealand, he played most of his cricket in Australia. He is thought by many to be one of the finest
early spin bowlers, and usually credited as the developer of the flipper.
Grimmett played 37 Tests between 1924 and 1936, taking 216 wickets at an average of just 24.21 runs
apiece. He took two five wicket hauls on debut against England in Sydney in 1925. He became the first
bowler to reach the milestone of taking 200 Test wickets, and is one of only four Test
bowlers that played in their first Test after the age of thirty to take more than 100 wickets, the other
three being Dilip Doshi, Saeed Ajmal and Ryan Harris. He took an average of six wickets per match. Many
wickets in the last four years of his Test career were taken bowling in tandem with fellow leg-spinner Bill
O'Reilly. Grimmett remains the one of the few bowlers with career figures of over 200 wickets in fewer
than 40 Tests. He held the record for the fastest bowler to take 200 wickets in Tests, doing so in his 36th
match. The record stood for 82 years, until Yasir Shah of Pakistan broke that mark in December 2018
in his 33rd Test match.
He took a five-wicket haul on 21 occasions, seven times finishing with ten wickets or more in a match.
His Test career only began when he was aged 33, and ended when he was 44, playing his last Test
against South Africa in Durban. Despite taking 44 wickets in the series, and continued success in first-
class cricket, he was dropped for the 1936/7 series at home against England, replaced by Frank Ward,
and did not join the 1938 tour to England.

10. Which year saw Test cricket played on Christmas Day for the first time?

1951
11. Why was the Christmas Day 1997 one-day international at Indore between India and Sri Lanka called
off after just three overs?

12. 588 runs: Believe it or not, India and England together scored 588 runs in a single day of a
Test match.

13. Sir Donald Bradman (309 runs) : Most runs on a single day by a batsman in
Test Matches. He scored 117 First Class Centuries (28067 runs in 234 matches & 338 innings with 43 not
outs, average 95.14). He scored 29 Test Centuries (6996 runs in 52 matches & 80 innings with 10 not
outs, average 99.94).
Donald Bradman failed to score any runs in his final innings, being bowled second ball for a duck by leg
spinner Eric Hollies. Had he scored just four, Bradman would have retired with a Test average of
exactly 100. It was the Fifth Test of the 1948 Ashes series, held at The Oval in London.

14. Two hat-tricks in the same Test match: Australia’s Jimmy Matthews took a
hat-trick in each of the South African innings in 1912 at Manchester and thus becoming the first and the
only player till date with two hat-tricks in a Test match. Overall, there are eight players including
Matthews who bagged two hat-tricks in a first-class match with Mitchell Starc recently becoming
the first to do so in the Sheffield Shield and the first player to do so in FC cricket in the last 40 years.

14. Sir Jack Hobbs (199 centuries): Most First Class Centuries by any batsman.
He played for England.

15. Highest individual score on Test debut: England’s Tip Foster made the kind of
debut every budding player dreams of. The right-hander scored a brilliant 287 in his maiden Test
innings in 1903 against the Aussies. After 114 years, the record is still intact as nobody came close to
breaking the feat.
South Africa’s Jacques Rudolph scored an unbeaten 222 against Bangladesh in 2003 which is
the 2nd highest score for any player in their debut innings. Foster made 19 runs in the 2nd innings of his
debut Test and accumulated another 294 runs in his career across the 12 innings he batted in the 7
matches after the debut.

16. The highest percentage of runs in an innings: The Charles Bannerman’s

record of scoring 67.34 percentage runs of the Australian total in the first innings of the first ever
Test persists as the longest surviving record with an age of 140 years. Bannerman, who opened the
innings, scored 165 before retiring hurt while the team’s total was 240/7.
The Aussies added five more runs before losing the remaining wickets as Bannerman did not return to
bat. The closest anyone came to Bannerman’s record was another Australia Michael Slater in 1999
also against England when he scored 66.84 percentage of his team’s 184-run total with his 123.

17. Lowest target defended successfully in the 4th innings:

England failed to chase the 85-run target in 1882 against Australia at The Oval the game is popular as
Australia’s first ever Test win and the origin of the Ashes but it was also the lowest ever total a team
failed to chase in the 4th innings of a Test match.
England were bowled out for 77 chasing 85 after losing the last six wickets for just 11 runs. Zimbabwe
failed to chase 99 against West Indies in 2000 while Australia lost to India in 2004 while chasing 107
which are the 2nd and 3rd lowest unsuccessful chases in Test history.

18. Adam Voges completed his century on his Test debut at 35 years 243 days. He was the
oldest ever to score a century on Test debut against West Indies at Roseau.

exists from the moment Test cricket started, and is the oldest major record that still stands; it is unlikely

after turning 40.
34. Oldest to be dismissed for 99 in a Test: Bruce Mitchell is the only one to be
